Good news. U of A plan to stop increase tuition for students who are recently in U of A. However, they will increase tuition the current students who will go to U of A next year. Sounds fair. I deeply agree.

Dear International Undergraduate Students,' J+ K5 n" M% O; ]" T# {( H) P" f6 `
& F+ u4 y+ M9 j3 X$ JYesterday, the Academic Planning Committee of the General Faculties
0 K# v R3 y6 sCouncil met to discuss the tuition proposals. I have both good and bad $ M3 \/ @/ }4 B/ i, b8 ^
news to report from that meeting.
& S) c( U2 w2 S; q
" J' A" s( v& b4 O6 PFirst, the good news. The committee decided to grandfather all current 6 a. @6 x4 j" t' n: I% M! X7 b% J1 W
undergraduate international students from the increase to the
: }/ V" B5 O" e1 E" ~8 c; adifferential fee. This means that next year, all current international 5 v; U# ^" i# ~! X0 ^
students will pay the same tuition as this year, plus whatever base / Y2 S; W F7 |: g# @5 s3 L
tuition increase that all students face (the proposal calls for 5.75%). 4 f- c. g) b0 n+ [5 }% f
Also, the administration decided to withdraw their motion to increase 6 I3 \; z4 O% H6 g6 q% b% `, J
the differential for international graduate students.
& n; X- X' t O6 C) ~" U
2 C/ z$ D0 ]3 ~/ ~% ^3 ?5 m/ uNow, the bad news. The motion that the committee approved called for an
! K( m+ c9 s& D$ V/ g0 [0 q, ]& }6 y* {increase in the international undergraduate differential from 157% to 1 y6 o% W& C' [( o8 _& m% r7 [
220%. This will mean that all new international undergraduate students 7 v' z; V$ f* H' Q! k$ A, Q# N
will pay $15,353.89 (assuming that the 5.75% increase happens). At - P; l3 t' l7 w& A& \
least, all new students will know what the U of A is charging in ) O/ C; X, M" _$ g, A
tuition before they come and they will not face any large unexpected ( Y2 b6 Z% E0 L' v+ k
increases once they are here.

international differential as well as the base tuition increase. I
