Housing starts are on the way down in Calgary. , y! z/ M9 p, X2 `" d% m

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation says there will be just over 14 thousand units built in the city this year. $ v7 u, N7 g* A/ g
1 n: v% n; P8 S) _( JThat includes both single and multifamily homes but that’s down 16 per cent from last year. 4 h3 W$ h% S" R# h3 B# ]7 d
0 l) q7 n, Q2 d2 L& L9 K: tHardest hit is the single-family home market, which is down 27 per cent from 2006. + D1 z0 H7 F B1 g

But officials say because of Alberta’s low unemployment, and abundance of job opportunities, the province is expected to face a drop in net migrants between now and the end of 2008. ; j! q/ f3 R, }1 f2 h$ P- C; V
