Edmonton’s emerging status as the North America transportation and logistics hub for Asian trade was solidified with the opening of a new $170 million container facility in Prince Rupert, BC on Sept. 12.
& E4 |9 O7 j; H3 J8 w% f3 O. W) |$ ^The opening of North America’s newest container port will provide significant economic advantages for the ‘Prince Rupert Corridor’ and enable Edmonton's plans to become a multi-modal transportation hub for the continent.
( `6 i& M* h3 N/ AThe port’s expansion follows a memorandum of co-operation – formalized earlier this year between Edmonton, Prince Rupert and Prince George – that will enhance Edmonton’s access to new markets while creating new back-haul opportunities for business and industry. 1 N/ s9 Z' e$ d+ i$ {* J- t5 C s
