亚省石油及天然气能源业正抨击省府，在最近推动的开採权改革措施，並不足以提高本省竞爭力。

能源业界人士指出，目前，亚省在开採业方面的投资吸引力，远低於卑诗省和沙省等邻近西岸省份。

他们表示，省府最新修订法例，旨在协助能源公司进行石油和天然气深层钻探工程，但却未能收到明显的果效。亚省能源钻探活动已经滑落至过去15年来最低水平。

不过，亚省能源厅长奈特（Mel Knight）却坚称，亚省仍然具备强大的市场竞爭力。他说：「省府推出的新开採权政策绝对是一项正確的计划。

沙省的石油及天然气钻探活动正在迅速发展。该省的土地销售总额至今已达到4亿6,500万元的纪录水平，相等於亚省的两倍以上。

Despite the emerging recovery, his association predicts 2008 western Canadian drilling of 16,500 wells will still be down by 11 per cent from a 2007 total of 18,557 wells.

In British Columbia, where almost all drilling is aimed at natural gas targets, PSAC forecasts 800 wells this year, a nine-per-cent decrease despite discoveries of new northern geological targets.

Saskatchewan :3,525 wells.

Alberta :Nearly 12,000 wells, or three-fourths of western Canadian drilling, will be in Alberta this year.
