- x3 }+ z- W/ O z. O: gbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
& `, V% H4 e& F2 Lemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day! Y$ ^* Z1 v4 _: ]' l0 @
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that) k3 J Y/ S5 x8 l0 t! R2 Z
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.* ?" ]+ C! x' o j& H
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
d3 t4 R1 \1 L# Q! H( D9 Ymission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve4 C, E, Y# H( n' T. d
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the- ]8 D9 A% ]3 x8 R- D' R
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills: C" T2 _+ @" b, R: g5 [2 I
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
* X/ u( z7 z! h lyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose4 L! m# I5 ~5 v4 d8 m
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
6 I7 ~2 M; y' F' t/ z9 }development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and8 e# v6 w9 H( ~) c" O1 ?
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
, `+ R3 d4 }' P$ Cwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a! i2 h- X2 u/ \
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
+ J/ @2 W# W5 k; ]The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
. L' `' ~, ^) I c* NYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
% B9 H3 T% C2 b, N9 b1 Z3 L9 HThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)% G C- S) c9 h+ D
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
* }; D y8 j9 c; Ncommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
. |7 Q7 V% A3 v# K3 K! Iwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities8 E9 Q/ W" K! l) u) }" o
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as5 `: [, r1 u7 y6 i- J
being realistic to each youth participant3 S. o/ X; I; y) u6 b2 T, X
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
7 T0 O- L9 f' ~! Nyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to$ d4 @, B/ }8 ]7 w7 `
each participant. \7 o' ~1 R' m6 w
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
7 o" }' z* O) K6 u4 ~ D- Ycover letters and resumes etc.
. E2 O/ w5 {; T- E9 F• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
& F) |" @( X' |) t! sexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
, P/ Q4 r1 [% }placements
& ]1 o1 `; w. m, f# u8 ~( P• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating5 c: m+ T* F2 ?6 _, c& S7 ^' C
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
8 y, j0 p( C* ^, A8 N• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
$ d% u0 x& }. o2 W4 f' c9 z- D) Mis being fulfilled for each youth
* s9 ?4 M1 D" h9 x; x& E! \' s• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are: A0 ~! R8 V: m* @

• Other tasks as they arise within the position

* k; `$ c5 C E: S9 R3 n9 a8 } Y Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted/ t/ ~* E2 h* W' E
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.$ k, u% |, J# \" q5 N3 R' g+ |
