The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
6 E" ^. ?5 J# Qbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based' w9 H+ J" z5 Z9 C" T
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
! x$ Q: w* G/ q7 C# m n9 {% W/ wprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that9 G, z7 G2 {, o8 D4 m
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.* K; l- y) B3 M! o/ G
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
. O" `4 S7 }4 J& f4 Pmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
5 K9 ?4 u! \8 y+ R, p; Z! econflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
! j; X1 K7 X: C+ J+ t6 |VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
$ M N* Q `2 s& G. }necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve. j* B. y- G% i% v; E2 Y9 R
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
7 R9 c5 A. L+ x+ aparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
( o; y9 z2 B ]$ ~/ {. A) E8 Idevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
: U9 O, i! h& `' Z+ i$ Pexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and" o+ n' |6 M1 I7 l& j, V/ ^6 W
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
. s3 }0 i( M6 R$ C/ p1 @( n) U, Y. Q6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
4 d# R. X5 q/ g7 p# y7 \+ y; B H/ xThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
% N, K& T; y" H1 ~1 U# TYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.1 k7 s @ ^, ~9 Y
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)7 q/ A$ u: c' M6 r& a% I* }
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
$ D* m8 d8 S5 e. gcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
/ l& b7 _: x- ]" u \; \3 q% qwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
# |' {# t7 L/ K4 S1 [• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as, i0 a3 F! g' G: M
being realistic to each youth participant# y. V% x% ^7 U6 a2 t/ ]
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the4 Z$ j8 s1 S- Z8 |. i8 U
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
8 ^' }* \& k0 m* weach participant; x' }2 Q) ?1 H- R% |9 c; J
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of" c. [! J4 X& o K5 c' s5 Z+ C! }7 H
cover letters and resumes etc.
^1 U1 R- F1 r4 V• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work i8 D( g( H" h, |
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
* l3 a+ T* f# l# `+ m9 e% \9 Z5 D+ Gplacements1 [9 l+ v/ {# I Z
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating/ G6 A. V0 I1 V4 t# {; @5 U
the process, and supporting the youth where needed5 p- D: Y; ^% r' i5 @1 b4 P
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach8 @- X4 ^" n" c
is being fulfilled for each youth
, p- f B; o3 j1 H: T• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are# |* D% M, W5 O
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project& f9 F) y2 a9 X! F2 W
• Other tasks as they arise within the position' @$ S: A9 |2 J U$ A
Experience Required: Employment Developer5 w, i' }9 x7 D" q
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
/ v! x5 V% H' a A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.& X5 ~, {* R7 }
 Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed

 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth
