) k# r% t3 ~9 W6 CThe YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
6 d% C5 J2 o5 P* Z' V& ?3 D7 Vbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
4 x1 F3 y1 R7 x$ j3 G8 R6 [employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
- F' [+ F: w# b% C( E' |6 kstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
: ]- C( g- A3 s2 E- cYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
; |( z- I. G  V3 L# T  G4 j" GVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
; M0 i" Z& F, j/ D3 y7 e, Hyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
9 L1 F. |; s' G+ q4 k2 Zwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
  {5 B2 P3 X/ O! b% |  y9 w  @YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
extension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

( E1 B/ [% x: w' w3 ]: N2 Ycommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
* x1 _+ [! w, Mwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
0 c5 F, j* d) j; O• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
being realistic to each youth participant
3 B  q) M+ K: ~6 `6 \: I/ a( y6 g• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
2 p7 Y$ v/ o# A" a4 b: t: hyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
each participant
: I6 @& W' V+ `. I3 J2 y! G6 T, \- d• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
cover letters and resumes etc.
  z. v1 Y9 ^2 I1 x• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
( f+ m6 C4 c' z. q! Y8 N- M0 l5 Vexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
placements
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
3 I( l. {" C- c) z1 ?0 \• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
is being fulfilled for each youth
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
0 n4 F( G) N  _( c& J/ K* d( u% U) `related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project
4 ?6 X8 {3 h5 X* h8 ]; Y* L• Other tasks as they arise within the position
) c3 [; `  \5 g/ R1 Q$ mExperience Required: Employment Developer
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
  [; v1 [! ?4 @1 a A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
9 g$ R! H& b9 p! x8 x' I- m Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed
to success.
% \- @2 U( K+ ?6 f  j" N1 @ Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
 Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, organizational and
time management.
# N  @7 g) P6 a4 Z( m/ l Strong connections with industry, or the ability to make those connections

 Strong skills in building relationships with industry and youth
( h1 @* g9 b$ G- F! Y. n Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth
at risk as it pertains to employment

 Strong leadership and active listening skills
 Ability to motivate youth
