The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months. + J0 @" u( F0 L! t; u# |5 N0 [

Responsibilities include:

1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)7 ?3 y$ S* c4 |) I
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
+ P. R' K5 p+ ~: O8 o3 \• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals- m1 \0 a* }* V4 y: d* o/ z
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored7 o! u! p. v+ m, M, [
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals2 K5 i$ \0 m, H+ A& F) B
• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.' |7 x4 }" D; e: [
3 z, L% J, T* e6 u9 T4 B* I2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
& {- s5 l$ h& N8 x• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

# Z; X: y+ { y7 p• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s " M* [, ] N4 p/ S: T

Candidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required. . H8 S8 d/ B ]

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
