The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

! N0 R6 S7 |) G. u, C; ?1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s), I# K5 y& ~7 Q' Q$ k9 S
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
& ^; X5 @- J7 C" g( L- o• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals& [$ d7 W9 S: ~6 e
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
- W. _9 q" @0 |! S8 K: b3 s1 j• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
8 I! ~- `2 r" E, ]6 t d+ n• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.! W: m: q5 i0 g- A4 ]6 t6 K+ d
[# T& a# R c, ]: ]' A2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
2 p& O- v' Z; h, m; I* m• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s r3 E4 i* P* f' j

Candidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.
