Full-time ETS Conventional Transit Operators may be required to operate a variety of vehicles including the 40’ diesel bus, 40’ diesel/electric buses, Hybrid buses, the 60’ articulated bus, the trolley coach, and the community service bus. Shifts are typically ‘split’ (2 segments of work during a day) to cover the morning and evening peak rush hours, Monday through Friday. Statutory holidays, afternoon, evening, night, and weekend work are also part of the job.

As a Conventional Transit Operator you'll be expected to drive a variety of vehicles, with routes that take you all over the city. You'll be working directly with the public and dealing with the daily challenges of the job in an independent work environment.

The rates quoted (2008 rates) are in accordance with the collective agreement between the Amalgamated Transit Union 569 and the City of Edmonton.

Post Training Rate - $21.38 to $26.72 per hour

Valid Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operator’s licence (non-probationary and non-graduated Class 5 status). Must have held valid operator’s licence for three (3) consecutive years.
9 w0 m$ D" R, X/ ZApplicant's must provide a current driver’s abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous two-year period. The abstract is not required at the time of application, but it must be presented before testing or interviewing can proceed.
4 p. {7 ]) E8 N- yApplicants must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job (e.g. operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide assistance to passengers with wheelchairs, strollers etc.)

Applicants must be able to pass a written English comprehension test (reading test), a public relations video-test, and a driving skills video-test. : J, O0 J3 x. D
Applicants must provide an acceptable police security clearance prior to training (at applicant’s expense). 5 {6 @9 t* r. D" n" X5 T& y% i) ^9 ?
Applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator’s Class 2 written test (at applicant’s expense) and Class 2 medical exam prior to training. The Class 2 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's road exam will take place during training. 6 C7 s! T2 C* m( p+ [
Selected applicants must successfully complete the ETS Operator Training Program (24 days).
