8 X3 a, t- o# z6 E* F' H4 Y( EThis is a temporary position for approximately 11 months.  Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada at the time of their application.

3 Y; _& Z$ [- d3 DAs part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience.

# ?" l7 r/ |6 `* J2 u9 |Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:, m+ ]+ G" u0 y% m: F1 F  Y! Q
•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment' f7 x* G, I* Q6 {# |
•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
0 b5 ^+ ~! C! u* x4 {8 T•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module; q4 [4 z) f) ]  ~6 t4 M& E
•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's4 x2 B2 z# @* @" v8 \$ s
•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers + Q1 y* v' r5 U' ^0 R' k
Job Requirements:  
1 \+ s, C: b- U•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline8 Y$ ^6 k  F9 V* C& e6 L
•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
/ J5 `8 n1 T2 @•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience/ Y' i+ k5 c1 G; |" ^( P
•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems+ c0 R- ]. |  }) ], X) X# p' A
•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
! O- q. ?6 `  s- ~) ^) V- D! f1 R•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
% k" i0 a3 w  [& e5 b) ]. K•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST

Salary:  $27.00 hourly
