This is a temporary position for approximately 11 months.  Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada at the time of their application.

' S7 W$ u0 [$ r6 F' n0 r1 r0 WAs part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. . K8 F1 N5 s* J- U( N0 h9 M

4 M' M( K% [+ W2 |( j. M, }Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:9 {5 |' m, i5 e# x4 |3 t* Q' v7 a& {) ]
•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment+ ^) n) E) ^/ ~
•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
+ Y% ]/ t& E( O  B* u# `•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module
/ E8 J: P' a6 X9 ~" |5 B•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's0 X8 f# ?1 w2 N2 k2 x5 z+ b( H5 N/ p
•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers : H7 {# h" a$ O5 Q. x* g' x
Job Requirements:  4 `! i- ^7 w3 \+ G* \; L; R# Y5 b
•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
' N% f. a$ I- S3 V# m•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
- ?( B0 G. V8 T6 i0 i7 n•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
4 v& g- K; Z& x# T•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems2 f$ e& L  c) T7 P
•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
9 Q: S/ n8 X4 t( E. e•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies- U0 f/ u: G$ |6 F, O! x/ {
•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST; ~0 Y% g( E, q, D
•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills  ?) q8 }* j# R" O/ t+ P# T: j1 o9 M, j
Hours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.

Salary:  $27.00 hourly
