Duties

2 V$ l# K; q8 n5 N# I * Provides routine technical and administrative support for sample preparations and mineral separation for isotopic analysis
1 R+ ?8 C7 R4 X, m/ _) p6 m. z% W0 C * Conducts mineral separation, sample imaging, grant mount preparation, sample weighing and iron exchange chromatography1 J* v8 w# u& O/ w9 C! `
* Provides training to graduate students, visiting scientists on preparation techniques
& B; ^) \+ o! ?6 D9 h& }0 M3 f, v * Compiles analytical data using standard office software such as Excel, Word and Corel for use by the PI or client
# ?* E- i0 t/ i/ h3 g8 W" y9 Q& z. f * Performs routine maintenance on equipment and lab husbandry7 K5 f: _8 C ?: O2 w
* Orders supplies, maintains lab records, maintain WHMIS records and compliance labeling, maintains lab inventory and safe disposal of chemicals2 M* z W( ^5 W
* Provides safety training to students, staff and visitors using the lab( v8 n; a% i: P# X. }0 T
* Provides administrative support by maintaining records, (usage and expenses) and prepares invoices
7 C6 }! R# o' i& G * Assists with laser ablation analyses on the multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICPMS)& Q8 X0 n& \# {' ]
V& c, n2 J& |Qualifications

* Post Secondary diploma in laboratory technology, Chemistry or Earth Sciences; BSc in Geology or Chemistry preferred7 B# O) W4 }+ V; b& s; i Y
* 1-2 years experience working in a research environment (analytical chemistry lab or geochemical lab)* I: o' v7 e2 e+ |6 v
* Computer proficiency using MS Office applications and Corel
& \* K% L9 v. T) n x4 c, @ * A thorough knowledge of lab safety protocols and WHMIS procedures
