Duties

    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
! e; _1 u- r) Y/ R7 c4 H' G( N    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators
& w! j) g  \$ V2 E    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
0 B/ K5 o) @5 w+ A) B9 X2 j    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses
! g6 D2 b# M6 ]    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth
# G8 p+ z8 w3 x6 b# ?7 O    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program
    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment
$ ?1 U  d3 c2 T4 c. F! g    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports
# G( ~1 [# d2 }7 s5 r0 l6 A( M4 T    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs
    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly
    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities
    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth
0 g6 y. |+ L/ G    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
' p- g8 q+ P; L    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs
* c4 S4 \5 i7 u5 A3 l- F6 S    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community
    * Fundraising skills an asset
4 Z; w8 ?" Q% W1 l/ X- X. D    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills

/ }. Q! ~. C5 D- v6 R  U& M- I    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills
    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills
    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset
