) M6 o) c; c$ A8 Q3 DThe Multicultural Health Brokers Co-operative supports immigrant/refugee individuals and families to attain optimum health through relevant health education, community development and advocacy support. The MCHB seeks a Research Consultant with strong organizational/reporting skills for a community based research project and environmental scan of under and unemployed immigrants in the Edmonton ethno-cultural communities of Edmonton.

The Project: The purpose of the research project is to explore, define and document the issue of unemployment and underemployment within ethno-cultural communities in Edmonton. Focus groups and other activities will be coordinated within six ethno-cultural groups to create an inventory of the skills and abilities of unemployed and underemployed immigrants and refugees including youth (aged 25-30) with a working ability in English language. ) J4 r! {1 C* g
0 C, p( P# K+ i- j0 \Their employability profiles will be compared to the categories most highly requested in temporary foreign worker applications. Community animation will be used and a database of employable local immigrant workers with their skills will be created and made available to key stakeholders. . k& ~# c$ [- K3 dResearch Consultant: He/she will have a background in community based research, instrument design and development. S/he will demonstrate an understanding of current issues in the Alberta workforce and be familiar with key government services supporting employment/immigration. The Research Consultant will work independently and as part of a core team that includes the Project Coordinator, Database Consultant and project support staff.2 U" {( A' k# P: q; L. y! u4 K0 s
: ^- R4 P. a' s. d* v$ k3 l4 r3 @: UResponsibilities: The research consultant will provide a final report synthesizing the findings from a community based research project gathering information on the barriers and solutions to employment for highly skilled and educated immigrants in the Edmonton area. u7 P: S. Project responsibilities/deliverables include: provide ongoing support and feedback to the Project Coordinator in the design and implementation of a community based research strategy; support ongoing review and design of a participatory research process that includes focus groups discussions and an on-line tool gathering detailed information from highly skilled and educated immigrants in the Edmonton area.

3 t8 X8 y) e5 {9 `& A) W% {6 VPLUS: provide background research and support for the dBase Consultant to ensure that privacy legislation/practices are adhered to in the collection and storage of on-line participant personal data; conduct a review of relevant literature documenting barriers to employment for immigrants, employer and government strategies and recommendations for multi-sectoral change; data analysis of focus group discussions and on-line participant data; produce a detailed report synthesizing research findings and recommendations for action in line with the project goals. % L/ G6 ^2 o* D. c: V5 |8 V& n/ O
