There are no changes in the way Albertans register for publicly-funded health care. However, as announced in the 2008 budget, health premiums have been eliminated as of January 1, 2009.

! U4 @6 G' U7 A4 @Payment and collection of health care premiums owed prior to January 1, 2009 will continue under these guidelines:

1. All Albertans are responsible to pay premiums unless they qualify for premium assistance, government-sponsored income support programs, or are senior citizens.6 w/ O" T, O/ n/ \# j* j; \1 b j
2. Employers and benefit administrators who register and pay premiums on behalf of their employees will continue to do so.! b! |/ H9 y. c2 o$ F
3. Alberta Health and Wellness will continue to pursue collections from those who fail to pay premiums.) B9 \7 o5 A) F/ }
4. Contributors to Alberta Blue Cross or other supplementary insurance plans that provide prescription drug, dental, and other extended coverage, will still pay those premiums, as they have not been eliminated.
