residential, commercial, and industrial structures.
& B: z2 c- E& X/ hConstruction electricians read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and architectural drawings
3 Z( X" e) _+ `- q) g, D* E' }and electrical code specifications to determine wiring layout. They cut, thread, bend, assemble, and- C7 ~% k+ ]$ B9 ~" p8 a" A5 F' e: r
install conduits and other types of electrical conductor enclosures and fittings. They pull wire and cable

relays, circuit breaker panels, and fuse enclosures, install single and multi-wire cables above and. g& y7 j) g3 a2 G) `& z! c

Construction electricians work in the full range of environmental conditions: from outside in' P# P/ i# i$ A+ Y8 |
all weathers; inside in dusty industrial plants and mills; to state-of-the-art clean-rooms in hospitals and
# m; V& p) ~ ]6 K5 _2 bmanufacturing plants. The work often requires considerable standing, bending, crawling, lifting,
B- W9 L j4 Z& W( n# tclimbing, pulling, and reaching and may be conducted in cramped, confined spaces or on ladders and2 `7 I1 E" i/ L
scaffolding at great heights. Hazards include electric shocks, burns, and falling objects.
2 _5 I7 g6 B9 f5 SConstruction electricians are required to have good mechanical ability, a thorough$ ?' L- H- G8 @3 w5 t) C
knowledge of the principles of electricity, circuitry, and power distribution systems, and familiarity with

For safety, permits and other regulations they follow local electrical, building and safety codes.

accommodate the schedule of these other trades since most trades rely on some sort of electrical

With advances in technology the work of the construction electrician is changing. Today’s) _2 n# ~7 I1 y A
wired environment requires construction electricians to be able to install a variety of wiring such as data,3 O1 L, g5 _. c$ ^0 r
audio, video, signalling, and communication cabling. Electrical control systems are also becoming more
% w5 B9 l( Y* Dcomplex, often solid-state or computer-controlled, which requires the construction electrician to have a
