Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the. U7 p& m8 W& }
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule# X6 F" V* l0 u) K5 k2 O8 @% Z9 m
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
" w1 b1 c5 r q. e3 lenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
7 B% }' F- V3 U+ s0 s9 D0 gmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;! l7 P' Z$ C! T" z7 ]
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
" D9 Y9 S6 d; e6 V7 z; w
4 F# P c5 J5 i2 e/ d$ D% h, jThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips$ J0 J7 p/ S+ p. U( }/ H+ m: q
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates6 q W* K3 F# Y3 V. W
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
! L m6 R: }6 v8 `" O7 P$ Q# @/ Mreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
" @1 P$ {/ x" b' k8 [resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
) i+ V1 F6 K a9 f* M/ himportance of composting and recycling.- a! [5 ~$ n. j h- q) U( q
~! r& x5 ?7 B5 O) Q7 Z$ |Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the0 @' V9 t2 j, u/ }4 g& ?
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
! w" w4 Y% c/ C) ~public education display booths; assisting with programs and
9 }9 V0 f* _: {! A! M' A* Pmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at8 [, x# O' S j9 B5 V$ C
various demonstration gardens and general public and school6 n2 E e5 K$ Y6 Z- y' H) ]
presentations.

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
; ]' x2 e/ F8 ^/ i- b! R3 n! dvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
