Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

H% O! t. }2 W3 S7 `0 ~* m1 }4 jDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
) ]: ]; i1 t( u* A; \Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
Z$ y% i! w' [/ c(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about: T+ ?5 c5 g0 m
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
9 U) e8 c% ^7 K4 f1 T p& G: I2 dmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;% u* Y% T: Q5 Q( x
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
* x2 K! p: a) h( C( }3 ~& O$ \1 Q! }3 D+ W% e& ^
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
# X5 P: t! r" Hto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates, y# t1 F/ n4 F
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
" b4 q! r+ I4 e4 U* wreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
8 ?, z9 _7 M4 n$ Iresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
B( L: s- w9 o, ^: B' O) }, Iimportance of composting and recycling.

8 y( o+ |9 A* p$ W4 {8 I/ IExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
: K' U @% Q% o. \Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
& ]: |8 Q) ?: [: vpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
. L! A% K, B% n- g# I) Kmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at/ K9 |6 z: g5 F$ ] y" b
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
