Show you care about our planet by taking part in Earth Hour on Saturday, March 28, 2009. Between 8:30 and 9:30 pm, cities around the world will turn off all non-essential lighting to demonstrate that individual action is vital and that together we can make a significant difference.

3 b" v# g& H3 w' Z& YThe City of Edmonton is an official partner of Earth Hour this year and will be turning off all non-essential facility lighting at City Hall, Century Place and Chancery Hall and at as many other City facilities as possible.

0 L+ D( f% F4 I, ?Please help us by turning off all non-essential power sources in your work space before you leave on either Thursday, March 26 or Friday, March 27.

1.      Turn off your computer and lights before you leave work.
7 j2 s% c8 H4 \0 p$ A2.      Walk around your work area and turn off any other non-essential power sources (i.e.: coffee makers, microwaves, toasters, radios)
% a$ Q$ y' i1 ~3.      Sign-up for Earth Hour at www.earthhourcanada.org and commit to turn off your lights on Saturday, March 28 at 8:30 pm.
4.      Join Councillor Don Iveson at City Hall plaza between 7:30 and 9 p.m. on Saturday, March 28 to enjoy Earth Hour family entertainment and see downtown go dark. The event will feature: environmentally friendly entertainment including fire dancers, drummers and face painting, a ceremonial turning off of the lights at 8:30 and carbon-free green power from Bullfrog Power.  
. \; b( x# J! s8 i1 |, T  [The IT Branch also encourages you to support Earth Hour and has halted software deployments for that weekend so that staff can turn off their PC without affecting the IT area. The IT Branch will be introducing changes in the future to enable City PCs to be powering down daily.
