OTTAWA (AFP) — The number of people infected with swine flu in Canada rose to eight Tuesday, after health officials confirmed two cases in the western province of Alberta.1 D+ v/ @0 `: q) `* U f$ `1 Z

"Two cases of human swine influenza have been confirmed in Alberta -- one in Calgary and the other in northern Alberta," said Dr Andre Corriveau, Alberta's chief medical officer for health matters, in a statement.

"Both individuals are male and have experienced a mild form of human swine flu," Corriveau said, adding that one of the patients already had fully recovered, while the other was nearly better.3 k$ D5 n- `( K

"These cases show that our monitoring and surveillance system is working as it should," he said, calling both bouts of the potentially deadly illness "mild."( ?+ x! B& t# A6 V' F0 f% |

The two of Canada's other swine flu cases surfaced in British Columbia, while the other four cases were in Novia Scotia. |
