a joint venture called K2 Mining ( kiewit and another company whose name started with K as well) was the project management company and Fluor / PCL were one of those subcontractors, which might have more union workers involved into this project. however, Fluor beat K2 by 50% of the total construction cost (rumor) and took the project management over from K2 lately(fact). Right now K2 is transferring the whole site management to Fluor and Amac, so Kiewit will work as one of the major subcontractors. This means Fluor will not hire union guys as construction work force directly into this project other than keep a minimum site services team. you may see more calls from pcl later on, but i don't see large quantity calls from fluor in the future. Also, I don't see any reason why Fluor will have any favor to sub contract its business to ibew instead of CLAC(somebody says Cheap Labour Accross Canada, name tells it). U# s1 J `0 i

all workers are currently living in Asbasca lodge, which is about 1 hour away from site under current weather situation, could be easily increased to 1.5 to 2 hours driving each way when it gets snowy and slippery. Kiewit people gets payed 30 bulks per day for the traffic, ibew boys don't get any compensation ( as yet).
