A baby food recall is underway as a popular Heinz baby cereal may contain elevated levels of a mycotoxin.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Heinz Canada are warning parents about ‘Heinz Mixed Cereal, Stage 2, From 6 Months’. The best before date codes located on the top left hand corner of the package are ‘BB/MA 10 DE 26’ and ‘BB/MA 10 DE 29’.
) V9 J8 z( F- I3 NNo illnesses have been reported from consuming the cereal. Heinz Canada says that the cereal may contain elevated levels of Ochratoxin A (OTA).

8 ]3 Q8 C( z0 {7 K8 FIn a news release, CFIA says Ochratoxin A is a mycotoxin produced by fungi that can grow in food such as grains, grapes and coffee beans and has been classified by as a possible human carcinogen.

1 u1 q9 k- S/ I6 d* rCFIA says that if a child has consumed the food, there is no need to seek medical attention since the substance is not harmful when eaten as part of a healthy diet over the short term.
