therefore doesn't produce the same feelings of guilt. Nevertheless, its not a
2 A' p* }; B5 j/ C4 `pleasant thought to start the New Year carrying any extra pounds. So why then
; x1 L. y& N: E) J) zeat yourself into a resolution to 'take off a few extra pounds' if you can
; w$ s" Y) Q3 j, Ksmartly avoid it?
; R% z+ H8 A; r  U?Whether it's sharing cookies and candies at work, or having an evening out
# g# h* M# A3 D" F* e$ _$ Bat a party or dinner, you can have Christmas food and enjoy it. While you seem 6 E" w: s  R. @
to be eating heartily with a smile, the key is to have a secret strategy of
7 ~9 L. Z( ~' ~) `* `moderation. It involves sticking to a plan that can be called 'Eating on a : H( ~! B; p  Y+ A8 o
Budget.'

moderation plan is developed because it is almost impossible to avoid exposure # A$ Y3 d5 b) U' w# d, g
to a lot of cookies, candies and other sweets at Christmas. At work, you may
+ Q) R# v& h- C" N# ~8 T; M2 r6 S+ }1 Drisk appearing like the Grinch who stole Christmas if your response will always : T2 S" p' B7 f$ W  K! M  N1 K) |( A
be something like, 'Uh..no..bah humbug' all the time that some Christmas goodies   t0 q# s' r. Z, r9 i. Z
are offered. It will seem as if you aren't in the spirit of the holidays $ y3 z# M3 ]" G! |6 o! ^) N
especially since at that time of year everyone is usually in a festive and more 8 R$ }) V4 x  x; H9 f* x% [
relaxed mood, and the pace at work is usually slower.
* P8 @& T% J% m4 y?A practical way to partake in Christmas goodies, for example, is to 2 t. j- r+ ?3 d
substitute some holiday cookies for say the bagel that you usually have with
* G+ z, ?) W( f6 c- E, ^* ?  kbreakfast or for a mid-morning snack. And instead of just taking one cookie,
- t. D4 q* G3 J. gfrom the platter, which is noticeable and likely will encourage a colleague to . w1 L: ^- w2 F+ P4 C
tell you to have more, take three instead. That's where the plan can come into
4 U5 s) L+ P& P1 C* _% q  A6 Qplay. You can then enjoy the cookies over two or more hours,ed hardy hoodies, because nobody will
. o( m9 A# V- m# d7 H1 obe watching how you really eat. You can always have a few candies, one cookie or ( d: v  w7 Y9 c! [: g6 ~4 ]8 P
a cookie and a half by your desk and that way it will seem as if you are 6 F6 n. p, P# [  v/ H6 c9 Q8 a
heartily enjoying the holiday treats.?
* p& q& A7 ~8 V. f; ~  j- `; j5 Q( B?Another strategy is to bring - bake or buy - low calorie Christmas cookies
6 N0 m# d" B) t* \4 oand candies to work to counteract others that are being offered. Since eating
  G/ X" K& o1 ^. P  a* x" e4 ihealthy is highly encouraged, health-conscious cookies will not be looked down
& q& r: h8 ]- T  E8 D& ^upon so long as they taste great. A box of sugar-free Christmas chocolate   {1 i# P3 p2 X6 i7 \- ~8 L
candies for example will look just as delightful as regular chocolate candies. 1 C- }  m* }) h0 `6 _
It's interesting to note that in a poll sponsored by the National Confectioners

For an occasion such as a Christmas party or a dinner, including Christmas
& L6 N9 H- [% L, WDinner, where larger quantities and selection of food is available, the 'Eating ; v2 y$ L8 J& G* K" n6 @, d
on a Budget' plan means that serving portions and the choice of food selected
3 _/ k+ s  L$ a* }2 lshould be carefully watched. & e9 w% D  G/ ]
At a party where more desserts and sweets are likely to be available, a few of 9 J& p4 K0 R$ N) m0 h6 S8 y) T. b
the selections can be sampled. If the urge to try everything can't be resisted, 7 B  y: }; ^6 e0 i6 G% ~1 U
then do so, but then second helpings have to be severely limited. The same is
