What Makes Christmas Magical

are distant memories. Hearty indulgence in the many foods shared at Christmas # o3 \4 g2 L( K- T. f. q
therefore doesn't produce the same feelings of guilt. Nevertheless, its not a 7 w; d' o6 y/ e( J5 b
pleasant thought to start the New Year carrying any extra pounds. So why then " r  l8 i- n& B2 N" k$ `2 }( ]
eat yourself into a resolution to 'take off a few extra pounds' if you can
8 w  }0 X; ^8 i3 N0 T( p6 Ismartly avoid it?
* A. ^* t  ~3 y2 q. [?Whether it's sharing cookies and candies at work, or having an evening out
, L# ?% ^  i. f( l1 I, p) _) n3 jat a party or dinner, you can have Christmas food and enjoy it. While you seem
, H6 @6 o( x2 @9 L/ M2 S7 Kto be eating heartily with a smile, the key is to have a secret strategy of 8 \+ g) t9 w5 Z& b+ z/ w4 k
moderation. It involves sticking to a plan that can be called 'Eating on a 0 f3 G9 R- E6 Q) c7 v4 \
Budget.'

to a lot of cookies, candies and other sweets at Christmas. At work, you may
# c! J; C5 D" {4 A0 [risk appearing like the Grinch who stole Christmas if your response will always # @2 y. X3 u( \$ @
be something like, 'Uh..no..bah humbug' all the time that some Christmas goodies
% H' i6 \* a0 D7 N0 |are offered. It will seem as if you aren't in the spirit of the holidays
0 P% L, M4 U4 o& S, D( Iespecially since at that time of year everyone is usually in a festive and more 4 B& C( z1 e: {3 g
relaxed mood, and the pace at work is usually slower.
2 R- @; L7 |- f/ n?A practical way to partake in Christmas goodies, for example, is to & Z4 j/ r: d4 L# }9 l, l- n
substitute some holiday cookies for say the bagel that you usually have with
! u& H- B/ o7 Y& A1 i* G% ebreakfast or for a mid-morning snack. And instead of just taking one cookie, 6 a6 o3 ?1 f% C9 n/ h0 v0 |' Y2 K
from the platter, which is noticeable and likely will encourage a colleague to
( J9 N$ a: j9 p0 C8 J% X2 xtell you to have more, take three instead. That's where the plan can come into + H3 t2 M/ _8 A8 q
play. You can then enjoy the cookies over two or more hours,ed hardy hoodies, because nobody will - T0 \1 G! @% U
be watching how you really eat. You can always have a few candies, one cookie or / C2 X' n; @- s: V3 O2 R
a cookie and a half by your desk and that way it will seem as if you are

! h( q: O, o# q7 W! Band candies to work to counteract others that are being offered. Since eating
% p' h/ R, G$ Y1 X2 x& C* \healthy is highly encouraged, health-conscious cookies will not be looked down # o9 h1 ^7 N( g; K6 |/ i
upon so long as they taste great. A box of sugar-free Christmas chocolate ! `& q! X- d( e0 u# T0 n; @0 X+ u
candies for example will look just as delightful as regular chocolate candies. " K4 Q1 _' b6 [# E* r8 C
It's interesting to note that in a poll sponsored by the National Confectioners

For an occasion such as a Christmas party or a dinner, including Christmas . v; v5 X* C5 K( f2 i" W+ r' Z
Dinner, where larger quantities and selection of food is available, the 'Eating 9 o4 ^! B# L( o1 X  F' L
on a Budget' plan means that serving portions and the choice of food selected   Y" f4 F5 l% p3 S! R% E
should be carefully watched. 6 K8 ^9 W) w) c- ?! |
At a party where more desserts and sweets are likely to be available, a few of
* ?' X: \* V' J1 V  `2 Uthe selections can be sampled. If the urge to try everything can't be resisted, $ ^/ }2 Z) m: x/ G' q# |
then do so, but then second helpings have to be severely limited. The same is
