What Makes Christmas Magical

are distant memories. Hearty indulgence in the many foods shared at Christmas
$ y) J% j: u. {0 Q" {therefore doesn't produce the same feelings of guilt. Nevertheless, its not a
/ [0 C" C' k/ g; ]* R9 C5 Wpleasant thought to start the New Year carrying any extra pounds. So why then
" p/ U" Z7 \6 V/ u8 `  z0 w  Jeat yourself into a resolution to 'take off a few extra pounds' if you can
0 x" Y& W5 a$ s* Q7 k4 A  v7 Esmartly avoid it?
* \, z  W$ x# K?Whether it's sharing cookies and candies at work, or having an evening out
9 b9 L: O  v7 s$ S* [9 Cat a party or dinner, you can have Christmas food and enjoy it. While you seem , S! D$ `) E! i9 w9 v+ L
to be eating heartily with a smile, the key is to have a secret strategy of
# s7 S+ M4 ]; J1 H  q! K' C  D% Ymoderation. It involves sticking to a plan that can be called 'Eating on a
8 d$ Y9 W+ h: B) KBudget.'

be something like, 'Uh..no..bah humbug' all the time that some Christmas goodies ) H0 L7 D( M. X/ n3 Y
are offered. It will seem as if you aren't in the spirit of the holidays 7 n0 U: u, _' V7 `) K- x
especially since at that time of year everyone is usually in a festive and more - ^# M+ _7 e5 H/ N, d8 ^; s' c+ s3 \
relaxed mood, and the pace at work is usually slower. % o; D1 A3 M' f
?A practical way to partake in Christmas goodies, for example, is to
/ p9 k% U" v% q$ O$ Xsubstitute some holiday cookies for say the bagel that you usually have with . j8 `; p1 Y! H/ ~$ L4 B6 V
breakfast or for a mid-morning snack. And instead of just taking one cookie, 6 V& I1 H3 S& [
from the platter, which is noticeable and likely will encourage a colleague to
& x. F" m4 G3 ~& ]; E9 W7 c' Qtell you to have more, take three instead. That's where the plan can come into
/ `* ~; o- f. x  v/ Eplay. You can then enjoy the cookies over two or more hours,ed hardy hoodies, because nobody will ' ]& }2 r- ?  }2 u' M7 {5 F
be watching how you really eat. You can always have a few candies, one cookie or

and candies to work to counteract others that are being offered. Since eating
* K) f) g* |$ D9 U8 S. W  Shealthy is highly encouraged, health-conscious cookies will not be looked down
7 r: K8 a1 h- U8 lupon so long as they taste great. A box of sugar-free Christmas chocolate
  z$ I8 H4 o- ?  N6 @6 rcandies for example will look just as delightful as regular chocolate candies. 9 G1 l/ c% i  F
It's interesting to note that in a poll sponsored by the National Confectioners + z3 E1 k; H, @9 K' }

on a Budget' plan means that serving portions and the choice of food selected

At a party where more desserts and sweets are likely to be available, a few of

then do so, but then second helpings have to be severely limited. The same is   I& C/ S- b" i3 }2 b
somewhat true for Christmas Dinners. One big difference is that the food served 6 T: n9 T  c& ^) |0 Y

can always say truthfully that the stomach is full.

tradition with family, friends and loved ones.
