What Makes Christmas Magical

During the Christmas season, summer and its body-conscious state of mind
' Z' p9 M3 @! S. ^7 oare distant memories. Hearty indulgence in the many foods shared at Christmas * }% r7 k+ D7 A# W. Q/ S2 O; E0 \1 U( ~
therefore doesn't produce the same feelings of guilt. Nevertheless, its not a # ^1 G- T0 G* C! U( V
pleasant thought to start the New Year carrying any extra pounds. So why then   j8 e* v. q# q$ w* ~1 Y
eat yourself into a resolution to 'take off a few extra pounds' if you can ) u, q2 o9 }' d+ _& L
smartly avoid it?
! ~: q5 [1 y) j+ G2 O?Whether it's sharing cookies and candies at work, or having an evening out
2 |# K. R3 F) V7 W" i, x7 e1 Z( X) ^at a party or dinner, you can have Christmas food and enjoy it. While you seem
' E2 J$ G9 @+ W, v3 {+ dto be eating heartily with a smile, the key is to have a secret strategy of
9 ?1 F0 I5 d% fmoderation. It involves sticking to a plan that can be called 'Eating on a
6 c. Y& [5 n& r3 E, M; V& aBudget.'

moderation plan is developed because it is almost impossible to avoid exposure
, ?! f- W# |5 W9 K7 C0 Tto a lot of cookies, candies and other sweets at Christmas. At work, you may ( F2 n& w5 f$ g
risk appearing like the Grinch who stole Christmas if your response will always
5 j: e) M' t% w) sbe something like, 'Uh..no..bah humbug' all the time that some Christmas goodies
/ P9 e+ W  S1 oare offered. It will seem as if you aren't in the spirit of the holidays : E' E$ P; Q% ]" A# c
especially since at that time of year everyone is usually in a festive and more 2 u6 Z9 T4 m! }* j
relaxed mood, and the pace at work is usually slower.
( Z6 \& J, T/ N$ X# ??A practical way to partake in Christmas goodies, for example, is to 5 J9 Q9 n2 p" E5 Z; u
substitute some holiday cookies for say the bagel that you usually have with
) p' P) n) M; z  w5 [9 t( @  A- Tbreakfast or for a mid-morning snack. And instead of just taking one cookie, ' |9 |  b' G9 v0 G/ O
from the platter, which is noticeable and likely will encourage a colleague to , n8 D3 E% T1 _6 r
tell you to have more, take three instead. That's where the plan can come into
0 R: i- `' `' A% l/ D& {2 Jplay. You can then enjoy the cookies over two or more hours,ed hardy hoodies, because nobody will   [4 H8 g- X/ n3 c6 q
be watching how you really eat. You can always have a few candies, one cookie or
9 D* Q3 T' @* U, p4 ~a cookie and a half by your desk and that way it will seem as if you are : S9 |9 S' f2 a# X- |
heartily enjoying the holiday treats.? - H1 \* R8 a4 i0 j: `# M0 X
?Another strategy is to bring - bake or buy - low calorie Christmas cookies 3 B: Q8 n5 W* R$ m  G0 H
and candies to work to counteract others that are being offered. Since eating
! {' i" K" c( p: j2 Dhealthy is highly encouraged, health-conscious cookies will not be looked down ! G6 a6 \- T; l- k( L
upon so long as they taste great. A box of sugar-free Christmas chocolate . U0 y! o+ n3 k% B% W& G2 K6 T
candies for example will look just as delightful as regular chocolate candies. ' b& G! C. Z3 a
It's interesting to note that in a poll sponsored by the National Confectioners ; z' f: i* I$ R' E$ ?: _: o  ]

" [7 u3 |5 G9 c- cshould be carefully watched.

0 g) u0 p+ N+ d/ {5 Ithe selections can be sampled. If the urge to try everything can't be resisted,
2 K; e7 W' v0 M9 nthen do so, but then second helpings have to be severely limited. The same is , O+ {! K  n. `% o' Z2 j
somewhat true for Christmas Dinners. One big difference is that the food served
- u% @+ C! Q! Vduring Christmas Dinner will be heavier, so by selecting portions wisely,air max tn, one - D4 y+ K' O1 Z8 ^) m
