What Makes Christmas Magical

are distant memories. Hearty indulgence in the many foods shared at Christmas
. y: m' j7 B( E9 r+ p) l% F. _0 G% k' Itherefore doesn't produce the same feelings of guilt. Nevertheless, its not a
& t! j1 B( {7 ]% w0 Rpleasant thought to start the New Year carrying any extra pounds. So why then
, v( w, N  H- g- ~" Oeat yourself into a resolution to 'take off a few extra pounds' if you can
  y2 m5 r+ K0 Osmartly avoid it?
2 g5 I6 |% v9 x5 N?Whether it's sharing cookies and candies at work, or having an evening out   Z& |: S# k  C% m. w& F# D1 ~
at a party or dinner, you can have Christmas food and enjoy it. While you seem , ]+ C+ z: _# c7 T) k0 T  c( }  i
to be eating heartily with a smile, the key is to have a secret strategy of   y9 c: v4 z% l$ m2 `) M1 ~/ [+ d
moderation. It involves sticking to a plan that can be called 'Eating on a 3 j- R+ k8 |7 y/ D3 R& i6 @
Budget.'1 S3 S5 R" m+ g1 t! P6 L

moderation plan is developed because it is almost impossible to avoid exposure
* e) q/ \$ e% O+ s0 h7 _to a lot of cookies, candies and other sweets at Christmas. At work, you may ) [- ^/ T; b( Q% E
risk appearing like the Grinch who stole Christmas if your response will always
# ]  w$ H5 ~- K9 @( ^6 m3 c* {9 b/ v% }be something like, 'Uh..no..bah humbug' all the time that some Christmas goodies 9 n" E$ q' c9 r$ g8 M
are offered. It will seem as if you aren't in the spirit of the holidays
& ~" V- l* C0 v; Despecially since at that time of year everyone is usually in a festive and more
, t; l3 E  [8 z# c+ f9 @9 j) ^relaxed mood, and the pace at work is usually slower. 6 ~2 Q$ l1 M% r& ~' T+ V' X
?A practical way to partake in Christmas goodies, for example, is to
9 s2 @- g. r. A% ~0 s0 j! {6 Lsubstitute some holiday cookies for say the bagel that you usually have with
  Q& {& e* Y: z* \+ [+ m' `! e' Fbreakfast or for a mid-morning snack. And instead of just taking one cookie,
4 h; y( _! X- S; Ofrom the platter, which is noticeable and likely will encourage a colleague to 7 P5 S" w% l2 Z# a
tell you to have more, take three instead. That's where the plan can come into * c' u4 b& G& [4 f/ [; w3 ^7 w: N2 N
play. You can then enjoy the cookies over two or more hours,ed hardy hoodies, because nobody will
% C$ G& t, A1 z1 ?' t1 t7 bbe watching how you really eat. You can always have a few candies, one cookie or * o7 d- p" v7 I$ F1 Z* T/ g
a cookie and a half by your desk and that way it will seem as if you are
$ c* `1 m9 }' x1 b  Zheartily enjoying the holiday treats.?
9 I' T5 w8 g# j1 y3 J?Another strategy is to bring - bake or buy - low calorie Christmas cookies
; L- t7 f1 F; h4 D% k  q3 U7 U/ h/ Y/ dand candies to work to counteract others that are being offered. Since eating
0 h) }' \" [- qhealthy is highly encouraged, health-conscious cookies will not be looked down
6 `3 ^% ?& `( _* L* w2 @upon so long as they taste great. A box of sugar-free Christmas chocolate
( S4 t4 r1 Y, [8 N! W7 ^candies for example will look just as delightful as regular chocolate candies. 2 n2 J4 o1 x; v: f' f" j  y, A
It's interesting to note that in a poll sponsored by the National Confectioners

For an occasion such as a Christmas party or a dinner, including Christmas 5 F& c' K( C$ c5 \0 G& M
Dinner, where larger quantities and selection of food is available, the 'Eating 1 Q* d- e0 H* B
on a Budget' plan means that serving portions and the choice of food selected
$ c5 P8 |1 S4 x+ I& V5 Cshould be carefully watched. 2 H& h, `2 K( x
At a party where more desserts and sweets are likely to be available, a few of - O5 {+ C4 L& p4 J4 D: u
the selections can be sampled. If the urge to try everything can't be resisted, ) ~$ T9 Z% E  q! S. W" J1 ~
then do so, but then second helpings have to be severely limited. The same is

can always say truthfully that the stomach is full.
