The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition" q) a" G* Z$ Z
Roles and Functions
; J4 f9 y7 O" t, OThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
D8 {3 Q9 ]1 K( p0 f2 jorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the1 v) r/ b0 q! s( D! o
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has) y# T% ?6 M% |
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
) L& S5 d! K a0 i% doperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
! C& _; s% h, P/ B A$ w. Sboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is% `; H2 J( c; E1 ]1 E
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
$ W6 T5 X* ^6 K; Remployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
/ ^+ C3 |* ?" |1 ?staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend2 G0 I; F, a- k' V: l
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the4 x2 c" `3 g1 E; y4 n0 n4 d
officers of the Coalition& x! {5 p* M% } _4 U
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural- I+ _% j. F9 v- B8 @
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
$ `% ~2 \7 ?7 T7 land public institutions p, {% D$ A8 o2 g) y
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
& v" N* e6 h' `$ u$ Xfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
$ z! V+ Z- M" G; u" ?1 \* l3 |4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
2 ]) N" r9 y5 J$ Y: q2 F2 T0 sorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
. j- v3 l1 ^/ P) R+ P) D Rparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society
- o9 l; L- o4 M0 M% K7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
8 b! f" _+ G3 Z8 @with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically- d: m3 H% u8 E8 |; k
diverse backgrounds

Administrative responsibilities:
4 x: q8 _2 h5 \5 l: W1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its: u1 M, O, L0 w9 T1 K* k9 t
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of! ^0 J$ R& |" a0 E
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the. n! b; k# p$ Z
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
( z5 s9 q! K- H: L- w: E- u2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
# H* \* O! ?+ `; j% h- cMulticultural Coalition# T- K5 J1 {! j8 y
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board+ ^( z5 h2 Q, |& r
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to/ \7 Y# B7 {2 }" U1 s; R
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
+ ~. H" M0 N3 q; h- eoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility. r1 M4 j! Q1 g) y
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
8 a+ x4 S, x4 q5 \aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
: x+ p8 L* n% ]' _- G" V( Fbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
( X6 q0 l/ C# Y3 G8 f t/ |6 Sparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and! Y: ~ Q0 M2 H/ H% U+ A3 J: Q
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of: w H0 \ l: U
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial, Q+ e) Y6 t8 k8 L% e! J! y7 w
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
; f9 J# h# e ymatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
6 I' w9 @) H* b& }directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and

5. Facilitation skills and ability to design, develop and deliver workshops an! a3 t. o+ P( ^

7. Community based research skills is an asset

community level

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with3 E6 F* R6 h2 l4 C9 T

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
