4 s% X# H3 S* {3 ^: C& l+ kRoles and Functions
2 c5 A7 r2 @: H" U! f" i% Z+ }, DThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
# U6 `$ ?9 O/ w% u) morganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the) w5 Y$ F! `4 K9 f
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
! S/ m# ^$ e$ e' G- c9 @: Cthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,9 K( W+ [) i6 Q1 T8 q% [- l
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular9 ]' i* X S2 x2 C. j5 F
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
+ S' Z; H7 |7 \5 V: C8 V% oconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
2 u% B, \3 K- p) u* I& b. h# p* oemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
0 {' S1 S7 Y( D& h' ?3 Sstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
8 Y, w1 C9 e) |& l, F# Kall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:& I8 m# S! H# q! Z4 |
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:5 s; \; |4 z l/ |6 ?, H
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

* @. ]+ C" d0 H) I) O2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
" M; V! N: W1 n& K: R$ c+ Oorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations7 t7 p, w |. t7 U2 v
and public institutions+ x: _8 f4 m B7 f
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
$ l3 {9 r$ H1 B, Cfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives$ _" X) q& | S5 W U+ s( a
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
& D9 L* K t+ F# P6 Y3 ^# Qorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with0 [5 [. I1 E: O/ a! Q' K2 |8 j. R

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
a g8 a6 u( T7 Gregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of" s9 l+ j/ F7 P' c) z
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the9 G; T& Z( L( y5 \7 q$ B. g
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.: T6 Y% E" `' Q& L
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
; K& V) _% G& n# [Multicultural Coalition
. u) `/ L! @0 R+ }! m- X$ ?$ e) E% dRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board9 x9 Y5 f2 d- B3 \: t
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to) }1 a8 P' ]$ ]; s
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
" I, g( ~6 W' ]operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
; Y+ `7 y) f; D, F$ AThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and y; G' ^6 D! }# E1 o2 T y J
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
4 H" Z5 d0 _3 K# j7 ]0 zbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
J% z# X2 ]# b( @* Vparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and$ i5 Y# |5 G( \1 v) w) k
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
+ U$ ?' B7 c: M& @$ m% d& w7 Idirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial) H. v3 I/ e4 {
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all6 ~( H ]$ i+ b( `. B) j
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
- c. ^2 D( E( M. k& b# wdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of" _, F8 T# N$ K6 } N, @
policies already adopted
