The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
. c3 e& H$ s6 N5 F0 l3 m. H6 ORoles and Functions5 m/ T4 \* V* @" n' k
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the3 m7 j+ H8 O: A
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the. [, @. D( A) T/ }( H" i8 P
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has0 m5 c- h+ d& j8 Q
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,8 I4 R( H( p0 E. u% H$ K* A% } U
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
, w# s7 G! p3 a8 Jboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is4 F6 ?+ k& h. Z9 j/ s* t/ T
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
" E8 @% q3 d/ kemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires) n0 p# ]+ H$ u9 [' p5 o
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
% A. F5 C/ V. `; M% Call board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant. `- Z+ n& ?( g! h

Functions and responsibilities:6 I! Q5 `2 A5 h7 o
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:& X2 B; q/ J% y) `% W- Z
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
D$ ]$ Q# }! R0 N' s* Y4 b N8 Pofficers of the Coalition5 [, E$ z1 J9 C" ^/ f$ F
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural! v1 [6 g$ \3 U O$ U) e, O& D
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
) e1 S, Z- e9 X; J1 ^; J+ B3 o/ T* dand public institutions: m3 R: h2 x" ~
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
; ^# o+ ~+ ?* e h$ G& [funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives: m0 ?4 A6 u& E2 i# n2 A% W
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
4 \* W0 _4 @. h' F- e7 ]2 Aorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community$ M& S% C+ o3 U4 \7 ^
leaders
8 H3 c9 V& c& L) {6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
6 O" d4 R: T0 ~participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

; ~6 k! n2 J. O% ^. b; m! f' y$ kwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

8 Q; C1 q1 `. K4 v- m, b8 bAdministrative responsibilities:7 m$ k, l8 h- {; q% i) N
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
3 H5 o, f" d7 h- J8 m( `regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of; g/ \1 B: x, V {+ w
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
1 e* N* R' v: W- I' smembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
5 n2 Z' T$ d( a7 r7 V0 |5 A% Y2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the

All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to' a4 a5 y2 k, T7 `+ X5 M( h: Z" T
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
1 }% x B# t* ], D5 g& | M% Qoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.* r6 I1 Z5 S9 U4 I/ {
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
9 t. C. v1 L$ v3 a: u6 W7 Naims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should- t. K! E7 \; U! E$ M5 I
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership3 o" L* k! H: u0 W# `+ K1 r
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
$ G( [* v" H8 i# | S* V9 t' gfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
5 ~; l! Y! O3 E9 W- B8 {/ ~# Idirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
3 O v' T$ V% f# e% A0 e- p9 Ostatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
8 o3 L+ q+ H6 n+ [* P* l5 Omatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
) V% e3 R$ ~, f# c% a* ]6 Ldirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the7 [, q9 s" j2 M! Q! V6 i0 R

10. Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (World, Excel and Power
