Roles and Functions
: y/ d6 _# P/ i% k" xThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
) t. }: U% P& m' E6 M( _! D* i, xorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the* _* J {) Y; h9 g
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has1 `0 S4 w* U" S7 S" Y5 {
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,1 I. @1 k4 O- H3 }! u* U0 ]0 u
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
# s. v7 V5 J1 N7 l& Qboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is" }! ^- d8 a0 t: V8 }4 J9 {" u; k
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
" ^1 k) @. R6 memployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
1 f8 b0 \6 t) [7 w% J4 I5 ?+ Bstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
# S" f( B4 x0 n* aall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:4 [( i) g; w- F& P& Z
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:# {9 W, P. `* D7 X& B0 G5 t
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
; ~1 [ ?, P a- o* Bofficers of the Coalition
& @! e0 j* n" {, g e/ f2 Z2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural( k$ }/ [5 b/ \$ ]' p9 r
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
" u9 {- p) w. Gand public institutions2 n, ]$ E! w; @) O1 s$ r* q! ?3 Y6 N% S
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
6 G- w' |' s, m$ \, ^6 |funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives O7 {& p1 k# x' s
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
2 v7 X p6 K- n' m5 i/ gorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with0 c5 \- f2 p9 r3 K

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community2 f( }8 m( j& l

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic9 [1 ^+ j" g! O4 G& O
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically& j1 i. G. v( r4 l. `' E3 B( q- e
diverse backgrounds0 w: h6 E6 g; j
4 z0 }8 B7 ]8 v6 G0 _Administrative responsibilities:
7 H" x' h( q: F0 v1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
% Z$ b* e8 Y; Y% jregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of" e5 B0 ~" N. t$ p. m0 y' q
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the( ]2 \" _1 n6 U* N
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
$ P1 \( V1 w+ ]1 [4 \1 c2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the5 n- q0 t2 H2 `7 x- q$ ~ `, K/ c

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board! i& _- |. Z' r$ v7 M
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to9 ]) K6 N' d+ S8 X
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
- d; e+ e0 `7 g$ A/ Z- D: t% `operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
. g9 {( h$ M6 `- SThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and, d- v( H+ V8 Q6 C
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should- \7 ~" w8 I2 @1 X, P8 K1 r1 I) n+ i/ Q% x
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
" n3 ? F- z7 b/ Z! |participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
+ s- f: e; S) f2 ]: C. vfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
" y! l& v. D: I: @, c6 Vdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial* G0 w" I- e& S3 C; F/ Q* D
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all8 Z% p4 x% f1 B8 Z* d7 w
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles2 l3 L( F8 J8 |3 G% Q8 a' F

Pay Range & Terms
8 l$ p9 d. k1 IThis is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
