今天上午由我代表EMIS参加了市政府举办的一个有关如何吸引移民,使移民能在爱城更好得安居乐业的研讨会。 该研讨会的英文名为:City's immigration and settlement/retention initiative workshop. 应邀参会的是爱城各社团,民间组织的代表。. L( n+ z# w; I* `0 c' ?5 \2 n$ U
! R y3 o; E9 N; Q市政府非常关心移民问题。 政府人员在会上介绍对比了爱城和Toronto, Vancouver, 和 Saskatoon 等在提供各种语言服务,信息,就业指导,就业机会,对移民, 多元文化的公众意识方面,人权,种族,公平,社会服务等的差异。爱城市政府表示了力图改进,向几个先进城市靠拢的意愿。 而后,参会代表分为五个小组对五个主要课题进行了讨论。这5个课题为:- I3 J' g0 ]8 @

[! }( M* I因为事先没有组织的指示,我根据自己的意愿,参加了Topic 1--information的讨论。我所在小组的讨论概况为: 目前政府部门提供的信息主要为英文和法文, 这给其他非英语国家的移民带来很多不便。 虽然在政府网站上的信息很全面,但不是每个人都有电脑和Internet设施,而且由于信息量太大,要找一个你想要的信息往往要花费很长时间。所以建议政府建立一个为移民设立的信息中心,并在这个中心下,到各个社区建立小的信息点。移民往往更乐意获得直接的,第一手的资料。各种信息资料应该有不同的语言版本。同时可以和爱城各种社团,民族团体,和不同语言的报纸和广播合作,宣传有用信息。大家一致认为对移民来说,医疗服务,教育,工作市场等几方面,信息严重不足。大家也对这些方面提了一些具体的加强措施,我这里就不一一列举了。& D+ c2 j7 g0 V: B8 j: U

我之所以在这里把5个Topic都列出来,是想集思广益。我的建议和想法很有限,何况每人只能参加一个Topic的讨论。但作为正真新移民的各位朋友们必定有很多你们自己亲历的想法和意见。如果有什么好的建议,请大家提出来。 我可以总结后发EMAIL给政府负责人。 希望在大家的建议下,中国移民,乃至来自其他各国的移民都能在爱城幸福快乐的生活。
