Position Profile Heavy Duty Mechanics inspect, service, and maintain diesel locomotives in accordance with federal and company regulations.

Diagnosing diesel engine malfunctions and making indicated repairs
6 D/ c/ @, G% v% bOperating machinery in a safe and effective manner
. O; N: x4 c8 x* O- RProviding daily locomotive maintenance that includes changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts
. M& `' F  }3 O2 b7 v( U5 m! Y/ sAssembling and starting engines
Diagnosing locomotive component malfunctions
* ^' v7 `, D( BPreparing inspection, work and maintenance reports
Performing other functions as assigned


Good eye-hand coordination
Frequently lifting weights up to 50 pounds

Physical work, sometimes outdoors in extreme weather conditions

( X# Z5 w  K; M9 Y6 d0 z$ |( h& DVisual acuity and hearing threshold tests are required for this position. Written pre-employment tests to become a Machinist Apprentice are required for this position. Completion of 3-year apprenticeship is required to become a Journeyman Machinist. This position is subject to night, weekend and holiday work hours when needed.
