Many Albertans are keen to help those affected by the Slave Lake fire. At this time, charitable organizations are asking Albertans to donate cash rather than goods, as this will help them to address the immediate needs of displaced residents. The Red Cross is accepting donations by phone at 1-800-418-1111 (monetary donations line only). Donations can also be made at all the major banks including: BMO Financial Group, CIBC, Canadian Western Bank, HSBC Bank Canada, National Bank Financial Group, RBC, Scotia Bank, and TD Canada Trust. Cheques should be made out to the Red Cross for “Alberta Fires”.2 Q) n% d# Q+ }# M7 M& t* U2 m, L2 g

A temporary fire victim call centre for household donations is now operating. The Non-Government Organization (NGO) Council of Alberta is connecting the donated household items with the locations where they are most needed. To reach the donation line, call 780-482-7867 or email slavelakedonate@stjohn.ab.ca. The donation line will operate from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Monday, May 23. It will then decide whether to continue operations after the long weekend. The donation line is possible because of the efforts by the Salvation Army, Samaritan’s Purse Canada, St. John’s Ambulance, Mennonite Disaster Services, Canadian Red Cross, Canadian National Baptist Convention, Canadian Reformed World relief Committee, and their volunteers. ^* b3 j4 r' t# }! o2 r' X
