T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip 4 n+ D' G/ {" K5 A* Z9 |
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering
# @9 w, j( u2 d. b% {7 jopportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on
+ L( ]& |( ?0 r' u& I! `interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
: Q% h5 J- @3 _4 u! qand  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved., q' f! t7 y0 G4 q7 s" s

What will take place in the sessions?3 a, Y( S9 _% R( [0 c
Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.- ~) E' s- o6 }* c6 I, Y& W, t
0 `- \6 a8 ?1 S1 f8 N: T2 N2 B$ M6 J
These activities will enable youth to:
2 ~" K9 i% E/ H Explore personal interests in arts and recreation# s( ]% D' J2 z
 Learn how to access community services and programs, E. h  C5 x. `, l: |* B  W' K' G
 Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills
  f7 {8 G; ?2 V Identify personal leadership strengths …  v; c' A+ g* W, P4 x5 X9 c% x& m" s

. a2 a% r$ N7 J0 |- v/ mProgram Schedule:& f0 {& f1 _+ C$ X8 P% i* _
Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
' j7 d, V6 L# s# BSummer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily# e; V  G: j% {! b& e' {
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily9 l7 A& `8 W7 Q9 P! N8 m7 w
4 x7 g9 s# |5 H* s. n
Who can participate?" x3 `) Y- _4 m4 ^
Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.
" c8 Z5 r9 a4 X5 |# S/ K
" V) R0 Q: [. D7 g' _0 ]What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?4 M1 k0 j$ Z' m% {+ ^# Y& e
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.4 U& s& n  u4 D; o, Z& C+ E

Volunteer’s Duties:
% q* ~& J" \, B' s8 r) A
1 {9 X+ x9 W  x4 _3 a% q7 M5 m- ` Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
. D. a) L/ g- K6 G5 {* a Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development ( r  x  B4 b- W# {3 y" n- T' P
 Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities
; d3 Z/ J; S2 N& ^/ ~+ O" R' ^ Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
  L# b' A9 Q/ S4 S( t& K Research activities related to the sessions’ topic- c1 t  Y& Z7 C: q- t
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips/ T- M; x) a2 [
 Assist in program planning
- S2 n: {  {( v$ c9 J/ H, O6 T. ] Be a role model
; e4 b, u, T# M$ l" @, z2 c5 t; W' D* r
Volunteer Commitment:
9 W# @4 E6 `6 j# ^
% m, D5 l0 l: F5 Z& X On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)  ]8 D( C( W7 G; `9 h/ |  A0 C* k
 One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer( C0 D# p8 k% t2 [4 x  J; \. \

 Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator+ z8 U! b9 U3 |& ~4 J' u; T% f4 Q
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program: E3 {3 y. L  E5 ]0 ^8 j( ]
 A team player
' z* ~% {2 Y, M8 Q, l$ S Able to work independently with minimum supervision& L) a1 |, j' w- E2 n6 B& V
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families3 t1 O2 I) n8 w% n
 Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
! {# r" A, J. y. a# N0 ?4 E4 N! W; V
