青少年义工机会

T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip & L' }  [7 G6 m  d1 |: ~8 v
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering
/ P  a8 E+ Z% |: P0 E. Y) i% bopportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on 2 m1 H( v  _$ ?
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development, 0 e4 L: W& a0 ^- k+ A
and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

What will take place in the sessions?
! I  Y9 L! a8 GEach session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.
& ]  K; Q6 E! t' H0 H; K( w0 j5 p4 S% \( \0 Y3 P
These activities will enable youth to:
2 L9 y$ ^  l/ D" U Explore personal interests in arts and recreation( x: o& u' K5 v3 c' j
 Learn how to access community services and programs' X) l; N$ U) d& o" N: L8 R! |/ R
 Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills# ]) o/ z8 l  q* j* [
 Identify personal leadership strengths …

& ^( F! ~6 X" g8 O3 pProgram Schedule:& i6 Q. F+ R0 k7 ]+ T% r/ M! B6 l& M
Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
3 b. u4 W4 ^1 @5 S: F+ XSummer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily# H6 s  V$ R& Z* [, {" k
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
/ w* `' S) z" v$ S* E& Y8 i1 v4 {+ r' D3 h4 n5 D  ^7 a
Who can participate?
6 N* z/ Q4 Z; i' T4 g# R* jAsian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.
) r9 O4 K: k+ _" E, r: x, g  v0 Z4 y3 ~3 M/ L- k1 O" S
What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
8 P+ T( n' I  T) A) E5 ~+ P/ Q1 rIt is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.
6 d' W6 U: A  J" r8 b2 r- ]( `! A+ }5 a% F/ V
  X( T' m2 ~5 E7 K6 x/ i. Y
Volunteer’s Duties:
1 K& [2 h+ n# V* G$ Z* s% z9 Y+ j/ a/ D7 a) F
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
) u+ O/ C0 X0 U Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
: z0 I  {* K5 A2 S Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities6 |  C5 [* F' [& }% L7 n" ]0 _9 i
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
4 V% M" C" I7 c4 O0 I% w6 E Research activities related to the sessions’ topic
3 {8 C5 ]6 g" G/ c/ Y! s Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips, j+ U' l: O- E7 |
 Assist in program planning- y4 H2 |2 H) C8 \* ~
 Be a role model
4 S/ p. w8 }& v3 I( m9 }/ v, g
3 M4 Q, U" i" Q& x7 X. J* w5 rVolunteer Commitment:
. [& J! }% N2 a/ B   b, K! ~+ w0 i8 I  N
 On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)* L+ V6 R' t0 M( A
 One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer
; V- i1 ]3 O) h' `) l9 A9 q' X9 K, K: w. L$ i
Attitude/Skills Requirements:
% z! }/ K8 j' a* B2 _4 E( U+ K* V# h# I' _
 Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator4 n% l# ?  ?% @8 E
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
- g- Q. ~' p+ m+ X A team player
5 w; J+ M  f% g5 N  T Able to work independently with minimum supervision
, E$ P5 O, {# F" O' L  t Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
$ }6 O$ J1 c* A1 e2 B9 s8 ~: D# q Willing to work with youth including youth at risk5 l! b, ?! P+ q; i( B
