T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip 5 |: L) N2 J( b4 j/ @1 X
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering + `' P' ?$ ~# W& c5 [
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on
& `' G3 w9 R% U' X# x- ]3 ~0 u! qinterpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
2 L7 @2 ?! V' N. Y. ]! L, m/ nand  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved." H1 T% B5 d- y7 y  L7 T- `

Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.

9 A6 R2 e/ |8 {+ S- A' d3 I7 }0 oThese activities will enable youth to:
. g0 b- x% W2 |8 x% X9 p7 M2 |- j+ F: J Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
: }& S7 V/ s8 _: d Learn how to access community services and programs
0 b  F( o& G; J7 Q+ B Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills

Program Schedule:
9 s" H+ s- Y) K- t  a9 s7 vRegular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
3 n# T) F$ f; @9 @Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
; F# d) f, D  U! h! h# f  N$ A0 E                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily6 c; k5 F  S' z. ?/ f
! G  u6 b9 ], g8 U% F
Who can participate?' u0 J3 \" F4 Z8 z5 |' o+ j
Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.; C# M. q5 {# g; J
3 k: p  V/ z+ `) X
What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?0 G, f. ^& G. s. J; D. T5 q
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.

; s# a0 F4 S/ p, F7 |3 x9 \7 T9 j; G" f& C) V; a
Volunteer’s Duties:
8 q' V8 T; ?9 k0 a% V8 h: D0 ]/ M2 d/ n( u7 }: `
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies 8 ]1 ]/ `; X/ P7 k/ l8 n/ l6 ^7 J
 Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
8 o) L, W8 w( p# R9 I/ @1 R Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities
( y/ l. ^# Q$ K9 ] Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
- r7 j% O8 p* I" W# A) | Research activities related to the sessions’ topic
5 y5 ?" m/ d9 C Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips6 Y( S- S: _  U8 R9 ?8 S  ?! A
 Assist in program planning) `! K/ z. ?9 y' K% r0 ?
 Be a role model' J0 ~3 n" K. w! o- g" m' b
8 l8 G, w, g  C1 ^' X6 `
Volunteer Commitment:
3 z( e2 l1 Z0 q$ E: e/ Q
+ L" `8 u3 m. z On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
4 z' {3 {2 w' D. u One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer5 |. j$ V% y* Q9 V: x" t

9 f2 D% I7 e6 w6 m# Z2 @Attitude/Skills Requirements:
& r( D! S5 d- E% O% y
2 E. G! a5 N7 U' j/ L; u. q! E4 f2 W Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator
: |2 u+ V) l6 @. i* y8 I0 K Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
' P; r5 O+ Z! y A team player
7 {0 i. Y) y! ?9 L: g& y Able to work independently with minimum supervision
7 h/ s; r- S  k  T" r( R6 g# ` Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families. Z5 d. S" O5 [. r% p, [/ c
 Willing to work with youth including youth at risk% k; I) L( O! i( s) ]
