T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
9 n! G9 ^, m, h4 e9 i* j. |. pAsian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering
% Q) c4 z* h5 }' Y" l" N/ O. kopportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on
" P. `4 P6 p. M' G, g! U# @3 |1 @interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development, + s8 E# {" ~$ I
and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

What will take place in the sessions?
9 ?0 @) _' J/ o4 iEach session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.

. D: P6 c/ R4 ^+ b- g, Z& sThese activities will enable youth to:
: ]0 i. a$ d( _( M. l. T Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
& c% f+ D& E) ^7 E: G! P' z Learn how to access community services and programs
; ]9 d+ E  V4 l# c Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills: C2 t; @/ K* Y! Z9 j) c# q
 Identify personal leadership strengths …- j- `  p+ j+ ^

Program Schedule:; `2 g9 R. o- P
Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.* f' U% E$ W; b6 S$ Q' T4 w
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily0 u  N) y( t4 Z6 c; B
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily/ ]* Q2 I& ^/ u: C( c4 ]" n

, J: o, z1 w- G9 Z( r* eWho can participate?
. k' Z9 h1 S6 W5 uAsian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.3 J+ I9 Z& h. T
" k; Y2 m4 W. P7 Z% ~1 W# N
What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?; M( Q$ V% M9 e' r7 T  }- ]( D
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.7 `7 l, S/ L) i) F# ?

6 s+ Y' }) p0 Z- P9 q* {' d0 r1 C
7 c6 n9 v9 M( ]& z' WVolunteer’s Duties:
  g1 i2 G1 ?4 s. q0 H
9 C& p% d  K% M, C; D Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
# O: d6 f4 f- i4 c1 c" R Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
$ A$ D# g6 G' m8 H Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities
& w5 t2 x, S" y& G Facilitate or assist in small group discussions: y+ m! T- o- X3 o2 Y% t, i0 b
 Research activities related to the sessions’ topic+ W1 ?+ H2 e2 i* m5 o8 Y3 x
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips
0 P8 i, Y% |# |& \' f Assist in program planning
: W4 e$ S1 B. u' y7 C2 M" |: M* O Be a role model; g2 G5 }; T9 \6 S2 ^7 C. Q

# n! J  g+ I) x$ |4 x; bVolunteer Commitment:
& p7 x' e  Q2 u0 _5 u. d9 W  j
1 T/ s/ n( R6 d8 H; K On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)- _( l' `( J1 e
 One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer. P- k. f2 B" O' e8 g# ]

7 ]' ?! t, ~5 S# d! W Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator) h/ O0 c& [6 S$ Y( m( }4 C
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
/ T- Z! g: H8 t- A* j A team player6 U2 f. J9 {. V# l+ i3 v
 Able to work independently with minimum supervision
' E9 I8 ?8 `  j. P& l1 Z4 r! V$ W Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
. w* x1 q0 x: V Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
