If you go for 3-plane windows, you better find out which manufacturers provide the best quality parts, especially the hinges,(if you go for casement windows) a vital part that is most vulnerable to the extra weight of the 3-planes. Also, if you live in a house that was designed for and installed with 2-plane windows, you may wanna consider a reinforcement of the framework around the window openings (additional headers, etc.) to keep them from going out of shape. If no effort was made to address this potential issue, years down the road, there is a great possibility that these 3-planes cannot be opened freely and closed tightly; so, you've got the extra R-value and sound proofing at the cost of the basic window function; in other words, the merits are well offset. |
