$ t* A& v* ^; P
0 f1 t( z% S. x; x  a/ ~        1. I couldn't care less. # _5 ?  R- Y2 a+ P, a; V
4 M( J+ W+ g& X7 ~
I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如: % x: U* g) h) H5 m6 M

$ w- f5 J2 T$ c  人家如果问: What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?) * @2 H! k- i( M6 N/ v& ^6 ?

- G" v) }% \4 s, y) o% B  你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎)
3 V! F  \/ D3 u2 X& a; F1 }& L! D. G# \& v* l) q+ D4 C. m, ~
  How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?) $ l+ d7 m- \. b. P' C3 T

; ^3 T- l8 g) D/ ?/ S8 ]  I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!) - N6 L& O; r  w, Z$ L- b" U  Q( M% n1 H
5 ?+ U3 a9 o. Q8 R
  但是有时说话者也有口是心非: 例如: * T# a% i  Q3 m0 V. A
  n: G$ a" w8 Q# ~$ C
  I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪) 7 ^. Q2 ~+ r! V0 n! F) J! p

$ Y% u( q* ^6 c( _: f  而实际上他是根本在乎升级和加薪的,那么人家也许就会回答说: Yes, you do(care). : H4 z9 ]2 a. [5 b4 n+ J! ]
% i% x8 @- j4 T$ ~& p# A6 }
I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理:
/ [) V: ^. u5 h6 y8 X# Q: ~' C1 e, _, U
  I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意)   `. \( O8 F  R* Y1 V
$ ?0 G$ H9 j' ?" y
  I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴)
7 t# I+ o1 G7 E# S" f0 O+ `
8 F* e$ Y$ v$ j: s) i7 a  I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right. 7 X0 }* J$ u* a6 W6 {9 `

# d: ]/ P% k/ f1 _+ I
& g( g0 J  @" b# D. F* T" {6 v  N
7 X( i8 f5 q: `8 j  I couldn't be more wrong.
* O+ }: T8 k8 T& ~  ^* y
$ ?' a; S% _1 g( m7 v+ V) I5 d& I6 ~$ S4 a1 E
I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少) / V9 D- ~( H" |' I3 f) f" z
7 u: f: `1 K/ L4 `/ o' K
  I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。) 9 x2 k' u6 y  q* K! \* [6 N0 v
% B% Z: d8 t9 Y  {5 G- e/ r
  2. No bones about it. % z6 k& N; d; e0 i' I

# |( \, [5 I+ E/ U1 k% o  意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如:
$ x1 L0 q; a6 ~% r$ C
+ X7 A& U- y) \, k) h! |  His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮) 7 K7 p' a7 P$ r  c7 C& Y9 v9 R
% G) N, f3 w6 s6 d" F9 h5 _
  Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。)
  ?7 Y  t& _/ |! J* u) x3 [& ^  p6 m! L2 M' @1 w& i
  When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法) ! K) Z7 l5 N( @, F/ s  O0 L8 ]. K  R

$ m5 H( a4 ^% U  No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了)
  L6 i4 R  s$ F2 d
  ?8 X/ \& M$ x# m  3. take it on me!   w+ h7 g/ E" h6 v- _, {8 A8 }
7 i) C- Y, |  o: B
  意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如:
5 T0 \. C5 M" Z$ O2 q  j1 b  n8 Q' {' {  V
  Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (one = candy) 7 ]+ g& s4 x1 W/ r4 y
+ i2 n) ]5 P' q3 q0 r7 s3 P1 q
  The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me." . E* B; ~. l& g; D
8 S8 H0 I  R" b3 a
  Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!)
* l1 N! x, `# e# U0 q4 c
3 c$ y" f3 X* }0 @% X  可见 take 后面的 it,是指 something,而 on 的后面通常不指别人,所以多半也只用在第一人称单数 me。
: c/ y) d( Q2 f6 f% q# b' S% U$ D- ?0 T, w8 |6 C
  (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.)
9 S8 ], ~1 }8 ]' G: R3 }0 m4 L7 c; O
  4. I am from Missouri.
' b2 V8 F  z& d3 [
- |5 G) k- P4 y" h+ D  这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。
$ e- C2 A2 }4 H0 G; o
" K! n% F4 N+ F: E2 S  据说这句话所以流行 (尤其在美国中西部) 是因为美国一些名人都住过密苏里州,包括 Harry Truman, Mark Twain, Walt Disney 等。后来老外不轻易相信别人时,就使用这句话。(也有半开玩笑性质) 例如: ) z: J+ E, l  G# L: l! e" F( a

7 I( X# t  a4 J; V- D. L  He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri. 1 A0 ]: V; w! S, D) J

0 q" H6 A; U5 t+ J0 J  Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.) (别愚弄我,我是来自密苏里州。)
! g, \% l5 m. L# D
& ?" u  ?. t" q We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown.
) n/ K5 e3 J$ U
+ ^2 W# B& w! E1 _. j& }  As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith
