( m/ L. N7 G0 f& A8 o
0 j7 O% r0 K/ Y$ Z3 ^( X; O# b5 i 1. I couldn't care less. 7 W* @% z. ?7 Z0 h" c; S+ p/ x
I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot.
What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?) # m0 O5 p6 ?0 U1 J
. k" P! s5 N: a* i* r
你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎) 3 F6 R3 h3 E( }& U0 h* v+ c. l' @
7 @) o8 ] V! A7 y b
How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?)
5 Y/ n5 C) o, T4 E! p' e0 K. e$ ~* W3 S% `
I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!)
, X/ X5 O( }4 p" ^/ n
7 f# Z* t% m- @' ]+ l8 ^
/ ?7 Q2 }: X9 V, u I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪)
) h8 [8 U5 b' z5 I
Yes, you do(care).
# Z o4 b0 {) |8 e% ]9 d5 }4 t% ]* J( Y( H
至于 I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. _: p5 ]- D6 p6 Z7 J4 A
0 }4 g' p5 f: H( R I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意)
7 d2 o2 a" c' p; L
6 Y1 Z9 O5 ]9 \& j& H3 S) |' R I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴)
8 u! \. Y- j7 t- k- B. H, y) m! m
6 v5 o6 Q# E. i, ~( x/ t( |- t I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right.
2 t6 D5 s( Z2 f+ F; N# H: @/ x! { w, Z$ O# Y4 g' x
9 \9 P# i4 @" @9 A2 F6 E& ~; |# U; g) l5 ~0 X+ x' v
I couldn't be more wrong.
2 k9 A( f& a9 O1 z9 f" N% [! m4 s% x5 K* J: K# W! J4 \* ~
I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少)
: d! C1 X) X3 O4 c1 T" Y+ w' P) Z6 t: I$ O% w
I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。) " |& X. h y. ~
0 g6 u* k- b9 [7 J 2. No bones about it.
3 ~6 B# q+ W2 d
& I- G# f7 F5 W+ t5 p 意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如:
4 N; ^$ C, m% W) c" w7 B/ r" [1 W. C! M4 j
His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮) 4 @+ a" D" {6 V% c/ k( T. L
6 ~: m" G% f' P, i6 X2 W Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。) + e+ j/ M: ^/ w' n( q/ _
) @# d; n7 A! P4 d& w+ T When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法) ' g% l+ ^! T2 S3 r! ~2 Q
. b/ u6 E! I: b; Y* \- b% ? No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了)
9 O' u# ?5 S# ?4 \4 o
! J y0 }8 L4 ~/ ]8 U 3. take it on me!
2 [3 i! R* n% K8 h( E8 |# N8 E3 g+ B
意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如:
- n; z/ L& o3 }3 l+ _% g: i1 d F' R
Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (one = candy) 4 \" ?) o6 J" |* E+ y
\0 y6 b( E' p* u* [& \- s% J, h
The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me." ) r9 Q8 Y. ^( z( t) C' [
' U+ s2 o1 A4 n$ r6 {- \4 }# o Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!) (也许铅笔上刻有名字,做为宣传之用而免费。) ! H( \, m4 X( W
* d' I5 A5 F$ G* M- ^# c
8 K% O5 Y9 r$ \, [$ |: P! w$ \# z- {6 k7 |) R
(假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.) " I1 x" _& m4 v, \9 q0 d- i1 a+ }! H
1 W7 q- k) Y* `% K/ s 4. I am from Missouri. $ g' O& r+ u r
s% d- U9 U$ w* q" k0 ~$ U
这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。 ' b2 H- B2 N) s1 q8 s: l
& h& I7 p& j% [! d [* O
! ?2 f/ b9 i+ \ D8 Q0 L# a, o$ s$ g9 `& L' V+ w
He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri. 1 v, q# H8 G' j
[) X9 L. s1 k0 W, C Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.)
" @5 ^4 M$ r- R& A" z
2 |$ d* G3 T' _1 U4 f We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown. / I" u( h5 o. \: c3 _+ f
+ O {9 \7 X* r& W2 \: Y
As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith |
