8 _& I5 u# T5 T3 [! TExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
. [3 ^6 c- K; d. h- F7 q* Bnot do any of the following:
7 d, N; T" N) q% V% k8 D! N(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
: I! x; g; y, V' Y9 u4 Y9 Y- Yvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
6 O S# o9 p* v(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor/ l, |( N: ^& w: p
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
) u/ v7 O: o* O1 s(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
P( H. x8 g, Tpermit another person
$ a3 F6 D5 ]( l C! c(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or( S& Y6 T E4 ?& K/ v/ g
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
) v0 O$ t; }7 i3 P5 f9 a& H8 \unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;0 e3 f- D# b- Q: p& Y4 a; V: H9 y( y
(d) give or lend a financial
' v3 y @2 G2 O0 A1 t# Cresponsibility card or a copy of it( _: ]7 P; N- m) b
to a person not entitled to have that financial
6 f8 L! K) x) ]1 l4 T: i1 ]responsibility card or copy.9 | f4 R2 g" O$ Z Q. r

! f4 R0 \( m) R6 ^' a) V0 |If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
5 Q$ ^* z- ^6 [without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of, H# U8 _0 l2 q9 A$ B" U. `& y5 U
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection3 y8 I( C6 _3 L, U
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
$ q ^8 ]. |- O, S! s% O; {3 [not an insured motor vehicle.5 i% X4 O9 B1 H" I7 j1 c! ~; P
(2), u! V8 P% e( v6 a! L9 q
If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this% F" C( q/ B& K- S
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this7 C* @& H7 I. C0 I
section.

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a0 {' M2 X0 E+ B+ Y
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
! O; O9 z- [) MInsurance Act+ p: }4 J8 M3 f* j1 L: {
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
' E1 f* O/ u4 K( v' Zoutside Alberta.* E" v$ | p2 r
(4)% {' p! Q h; Z1 k+ m5 x. v) E
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection8 S" r) g0 Z, U! d8 m
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
" M; o' [/ V/ M' N/ t6 \1 [% {3 ~$ M(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
7 E4 c; S( m4 w: T: Y$ G$ c) }* aand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
& c% e& c; x r+ limprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not( I: Q( b: O, s' _" a3 Z. _
more than 6 months
0 V( d9 j$ u, o2 t& _' GMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
