The Alberta Family Employment Tax Credit (AFETC) is a program funded by the Alberta government to help working families provide for their children. The AFETC supports families financially and encourages self-reliance and stability. Over the 2011-12 benefit year, the Alberta Family Employment Tax Credit provided about $114 million in tax relief to about 137,000 Alberta families.

◾to support children in low and middle income families, and ! T: s$ c% V# d, f
◾to provide incentive for the parents of these children to continue to work.

◾Resident of Alberta for at least one month, 7 f/ Q/ T% z/ n# E3 L( N
◾Parent of one or more children under 18,
8 S/ ]3 {& W% Q3 k! m, l+ [! a◾More than $2,760 annual family working income, and
; O8 D1 ?5 S+ [9 ]; J }◾A family net income of less than $53,725 for families with one child, $70,275 for families with two children, $80,200 for families with three children, and $83,500 for families with four or more children. * _7 p2 r# x4 R& G/ F' k# M2 D
How the Tax Credit Works ( J7 }6 P# m3 m @) e% D% a

You could receive up to a maximum of $1,919 for your family for the twelve month period beginning July 2013. The maximum amounts (as of July 1, 2013) are as follows:! z6 N. ^9 V; W+ ]. d5 s
◾first child - $728;
