Newcomers are being offered some help when shopping for a home in Edmonton’s tight housing market.
; B! T7 T$ Z1 Z4 qImmigrant women and their families can now access a “household toolkit” crafted by a local service group for new immigrant families, through real estate agents. 9 {6 g* [4 q+ T+ c; T0 m
8 ], @8 }5 l! nIn the tool kit are 75 common hand tools – like a hammer and screwdriver – as well a book on how to buy a home, a home maintenance schedule and other items.

The program was announced by a group called Changing Together… A Centre for Immigrant Women. 0 c- E$ k8 b0 v

) y y! E% T) oJosephine Pallard, the group’s executive director, said Alberta’s economic boom has caused a housing shortage that makes it more difficult for immigrants to find a place to live and integrate into Canadian society.
