Edmonton home builders say they are working non-stop to meet a demand they haven’t seen since the boom of 2005.

Builders started construction on 468 new single detached homes last month, a 34 per cent increase from August 2013.

“Right now we're running flat out, we’re building as much as we can,” said Rob Busby, construction manager for Landmark Homes.! o# _7 I/ k* y" a! n& n( J8 Z& r
0 L' K8 e b2 ^9 `2 B& u0 SThe increased demand is due to strong job and population growth, according to Christina Butchart, senior analyst with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.* n \2 z; p3 o! A* Q% i5 R
F6 F" p) \( w“If you look at the number of people who are moving into Edmonton, it’s record high levels so that’s contributing to that expanding demand,” she said.
