Edmonton home builders say they are working non-stop to meet a demand they haven’t seen since the boom of 2005.6 _5 r# v7 o: {

Builders started construction on 468 new single detached homes last month, a 34 per cent increase from August 2013.

“Right now we're running flat out, we’re building as much as we can,” said Rob Busby, construction manager for Landmark Homes.& Z# d* w% F& ~% m9 n8 w( l

The increased demand is due to strong job and population growth, according to Christina Butchart, senior analyst with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.1 e+ e% B5 o9 H2 O3 L/ d
& K# ?$ @3 a0 a! e5 f“If you look at the number of people who are moving into Edmonton, it’s record high levels so that’s contributing to that expanding demand,” she said.
