EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.
- e X8 P2 V) R# @7 @; W' q& H Z
3 M# l" x: o7 m0 N2 `+ DThe item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.

E4 t- u5 g! j+ y( V# QPolice evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."
