EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.

" A- w2 W1 M; X! M$ D7 P" jThe item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.

8 y2 K- G V2 B4 G8 R' T, _5 k7 APolice evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."% D' W6 k0 d5 D1 p T& _
