　　North country scene:
                                                                                               
　　A hundred leagues locked in ice,

5 |( d8 W+ ]- L2 E4 b$ q. j( [6 Z　　A thousand leagues of whirling snow.

　　Both sides of the Great Wall
/ P; A0 a) J" {2 ~( K- s: v/ r
　　One single white immensity.
& L/ N6 P$ m) I2 W, l% W
　　The Yellow River"s swift current

, ]( V% s7 E4 k6 H+ K/ F3 x　　Is stilled from end to end.
0 W! K3 K; i' m, u6 {7 c
　　The mountains dance like silver snakes

. }0 n# Z9 Z: |3 m1 n# Q! e　　And the highlands* charge like wax-hued elephants,
% S9 @! K1 s  |0 V2 j
　　Vying with heaven in stature.

　　On a fine day, the land,
" v( m" F# P7 o. y1 f, ~) c7 K
; g* l7 `0 \" S7 i　　Clad in white, adorned in red,
9 f& S& {3 D7 ]* t- H* s% [
/ g$ d9 z+ U( [' N　　Grows more enchanting.
! I8 J4 n" U4 o6 x: h
3 q$ F6 R: V& ~: j4 _; P4 X　　This land so rich in beauty
; O0 o0 Z; o! x( g
　　Has made countless heroes bow in homage.

+ f# r& F- B* H　　But alas! Chin Shih-huang and Han Wu-ti

　　Were lacking in literary grace,
5 D/ O# d; h7 M8 `6 H' b/ h
　　And Tang Tai-tsung and Sung Tai-tsu

6 L% w# l. Q0 v3 d　　Had little poetry in their souls;
　　And Genghis Khan,

　　Proud Son of Heaven for a day,
5 C! L" M$ m8 ^7 N9 Z
　　Knew only shooting eagles, bow outstretched
3 }" g( e* D* C3 X) f& f
　　All are past and gone!

+ Q: W# Q8 n" u! X7 U
