An Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads." K- y- O2 s/ }! ]1 {# t
A police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.
& L7 }, a+ |+ H7 m- ZPolice say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.
6 {6 L6 [4 i$ g! F! B. p9 ~7 W# C"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."+ X/ r, |0 A% `# c
Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.
