An Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.
7 b9 p7 o6 U( {! FA police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.
% u, D/ H  u0 m- zPolice say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.
2 T; M( o' Q8 k0 e0 C"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."
; [- F$ e% d+ s, N( }9 q7 n( ^Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.
% Z  E& m  h: P3 m$ n4 E"The last thing I'm sure you, and any of us want, is to be in front of a vehicle that is basically 17 tonnes over what it's allowed to be on the road when you stop at a red light."

The company is due in court on Thursday, December 3.
