An Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.
  a2 Q- y; u! d  s& t7 eA police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.
7 c; R; t4 O/ }+ e" P" _5 _Police say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.
% R4 A+ P  A0 L9 }, K1 U1 m* Y"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."
$ X9 ~; U, B3 q0 @Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.
