An Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.
# |1 x2 U- R' A7 m+ y3 B8 A+ RA police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.
3 _. Y9 v1 R/ n& QPolice say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.
" v! e. ]3 v- a% m4 J8 I"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."
/ B% u% C6 W5 KBeattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.

Beattie added that roadways can be destroyed by overweight vehicles since they cause cracks and potholes.
