9 ?: }6 x7 R7 y1 HAn Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.- l+ x, b3 `9 q5 P7 w0 l0 X
A police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.) N5 Q* f! |% q/ t& k6 s
Police say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.& b! M: x# ~% z2 o
"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."/ r" U1 K: b, d- L4 l
Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.
