+ v' {) t+ c( M) N& ~, bAn Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.
$ ?7 E# y+ p' O* c1 s7 \6 {A police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.
+ `' X) M {& o* [+ VPolice say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.
/ s% b$ |. p/ y6 Z3 U; S6 x- }"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."2 h# Z" g! u2 v9 T" R
Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.* ^- u5 @' f) G
"The last thing I'm sure you, and any of us want, is to be in front of a vehicle that is basically 17 tonnes over what it's allowed to be on the road when you stop at a red light."
