0 J6 }' @* k% n: h& f: \1 v) TAn Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.
4 }4 n- P: G- i! T" CA police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.
& G1 o" C. \* R4 U* dPolice say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.
4 r( Y( C" s& Y" ]- X/ w5 u, R"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe." U Z0 M5 A* |0 u! M; Y5 O
Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.
