# A8 W e" b' H+ z" aAn Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads. ~2 A' u; C7 Z; v" a8 [) g, X' l. b
A police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.
( D' z. I. o7 [" \; D+ ^* MPolice say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.
8 w# ]) P) @" @* G8 q- E: x"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."1 N8 j! P$ i# k# u
Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.
