An Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.1 W+ d/ d3 s, J U( B ?
A police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.9 ]* U4 o: H% _+ Z
Police say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.8 Y7 I. j8 b% `6 Q% ?- r( M$ U
"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe.") Q7 G* Y/ Z9 y7 w
Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.
