Students at the University of Alberta have voted in favour of mandatory bus passes, a move that will cost students an extra $75 every term.

& h& R* p" H: W# Q& j+ KGetting to this point took five years of debate and negotiations, said U of A student union president Samantha Power on Friday.9 t) \# F8 W* H/ {
( Z% u) T6 U0 [5 `"We really needed to make sure that it was affordable for students because it's mandatory. We didn't want students who don't use transit as often to be put at a disadvantage, so at $75 for four months, it's about one round trip a week."7 K' Q& N0 [4 {0 h: c* M
