Getting to this point took five years of debate and negotiations, said U of A student union president Samantha Power on Friday.

"We really needed to make sure that it was affordable for students because it's mandatory. We didn't want students who don't use transit as often to be put at a disadvantage, so at $75 for four months, it's about one round trip a week.". Z. a% H# Y+ Z {' b
/ _2 m) z6 |$ B w" PPower said the U-Pass will be environmentally friendly by encouraging more students to use transit, and those who already buy monthly passes will save about $300 a year when the new pass kicks in next fall.
