1955: Westmount Shoppers' Park opens with 40 stores, 3,000 parking spaces at a cost of $5 million. Woodward's anchors Edmonton's first shopping centre.

1984: Triple Five Corporation, developer of West Edmonton Mall, buys property from Woodward's and spends $25 million on renovations.

2000: New owner Dundee Developments spends $30 million on facelift. Safeway moves to the mall's south end, and Zellers enlarges its store. Renovation separates the anchors in an effort to draw traffic past a new ice rink and food court. Slogan "New Cool" used to attract shoppers.

2003: Sandalwood Management buys mall and starts adding stand-alone stores on "pad locations."% l* y5 Y* h5 V; X, N s6 t

MARCH 15, 2007: First Capital Realty Inc. pays $70 million for Westmount Shopping Centre and plans to demolish part of the shopping centre between Zellers and Shoppers Drug Mart and build a $21-million Home Depot.
