EDMONTON — Southgate Centre today began a $108 million expansion to accommodate more than 30 new retailers and restaurants.

; ?0 p7 t, V; ^6 r/ z0 I; vThe two-year project, facing 111th Street, will add 126,000 square feet of leasable space on the ground floor — and two levels of parking above.

/ ?; n* E. H T2 J# S' N4 Q# j“Part of the redevelopment will include enhanced site lighting and closed-circuit TV security systems monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Southgate general manager Paul Fairbridge.& \' U9 W; C$ Q2 J' z# V

It also will include hotel-quality washrooms and private sitting rooms for nursing mothers.

. A( S3 }. o0 C( q5 [2 zSouthgate, a 36-year-old mall located south and west of 51st Avenue and 111th Street, now has 130 stores and services. It is owned by Ivanhoe Cambridge, based in Montreal.
