. T' r H& c' C4 {# A7 w9 m' j8 G3 JEDMONTON — Southgate Centre today began a $108 million expansion to accommodate more than 30 new retailers and restaurants.

3 y1 P& ]% e' b2 XThe two-year project, facing 111th Street, will add 126,000 square feet of leasable space on the ground floor — and two levels of parking above.* o% ?) Y' N# i# M1 V
7 h2 N. G7 n. J+ G“Part of the redevelopment will include enhanced site lighting and closed-circuit TV security systems monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Southgate general manager Paul Fairbridge.

The expansion is expected to create at least 500 new full-time and part-time jobs.

7 n& J7 B6 g% A' B& c0 i$ l& }Southgate, a 36-year-old mall located south and west of 51st Avenue and 111th Street, now has 130 stores and services. It is owned by Ivanhoe Cambridge, based in Montreal.
