PART-TIME ASSISTANT
The Research Data Centres (RDC) Program is part of an initiative from Statistics Canada, the

Research and university consortia to help strengthen Canada's social research capacity and

Position: Part-time Assistant
Classification: Statistics Canada CR-04, Term, Part-time
+ N9 [5 W+ Y. }; i0 fLocation: Research Data Centre, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta
Hourly rate: $20 ($40,101 per annum prorated at 12 hours per week)
Employment Tenure: Part-time/Causal (approximately 12 hours per week). The incumbent’s

Statistics Canada is looking for a reliable individual for a part-time position to work evenings and
; c: ~. r# @9 M6 W6 eweekend hours.
You will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of the Research Data Centre (RDC) computer
6 {/ e( ]$ n% `& Zlab located on the University of Alberta campus as well as providing administrative support for the
) |# [0 `* y  Y4 ncentre.
1 ?0 S( V0 D4 B* L% DThese responsibilities include:
-Maintain the integrity of the security systems in the RDC.
-Provide basic support to clients on operating Window XP.
-Provide general office administration support, such as filing, upgrading software and
renewing licenses, communicating with various university departments with respect to
facilities’ maintenance, etc.
1 p' e$ F5 N% Z3 h-Conduct other office related tasks, such as Internet documents search, backup of electronic
$ \9 m; i: l% q+ i7 E5 j( g6 {( lclients’ files etc.
Statement of Qualifications
Education:
-Successful completion of Bachelor degree in administration, business, computer sciences,
- d% P! ^7 Q' u2 ~7 Ieducation, economics, sociology, statistics or related discipline; or an acceptable combination
# D/ |6 D" a6 Y2 b( F6 |of education, training and /or experience.
Knowledge/Technical competencies:
-General knowledge of the Microsoft Window operating system.
3 C8 M+ B6 l* h- K1 Y-Extensive experience in using Microsoft Window office application software including Word
4 w9 g! q' O! a$ B) Z& t- Sand Excel.
7 T6 V6 f+ O1 F  A, I-Experience using and updating an information database.
% {4 @3 }, A: ^5 P0 E, V& `7 H( ~" [4 j4 K
; E' {; w5 ^  ~5 Z% l; D! mAssets:
. s1 b' U# M2 e9 S$ Y9 X# ?/ {" b2 R-Experience in using MS Access.
-Experience in web page publication, xml and/or IT network knowledge.
1 M) w4 D8 Z; k1 E-Experience in one of the Statistics software: SAS, SPSS or STATA
Abilities:
+ u  [+ r5 |+ D. ~0 E, g& J-Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
3 n# m- w% a1 P-Ability to operate a computerized system to research information.
-Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
5 k) ?, x- A% Z3 mPersonal suitability: Dependable, detail orientated, discrete, thorough, effective interpersonal
relations.
