1 f- j6 u9 J* u0 p+ ^Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
! ~* c1 g( Y" g7 H•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.

4 o! e5 z5 a. y•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
: m' M8 J6 g/ V, h, O( V* c•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
- m8 r' W; q2 q. a, \•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
, E( W2 B. [- s7 I+ l  @4 u•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
! r0 s2 w* A( e1 b3 M•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
+ a" c( u- u: |9 k  x7 C- }( h0 X4 q•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
: a' H1 ~3 u( M( @" R! iFunctions of all positions:
•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
1 A' ?2 }/ F$ e8 f' m' B•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
0 U# Q/ e, L8 O' c( P5 \' P•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
& ]# l' k6 ?' c: q7 h6 s+ z•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
! l  I1 Q- j1 v; p& p! sSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
