8 y, ^, u( c3 Y1 Y4 {0 tSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
4 Y) d2 }9 s" f8 T0 i( nDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works; ^8 G) t6 S# v$ q q- e' s$ l
• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
+ K" A. z- u. T. h" N• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
7 E/ o+ ]( @8 w• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

" ]& b; a& s: K* N/ q2 N1 D& A• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing. % c N1 ~9 @6 F2 |7 p
• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
1 I: u6 W9 S& C• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.$ a/ `. W/ x' M% g G
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.- Z/ C+ |; j# U6 s, ?

Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
) P# g; d, v+ Q: _# V/ ]7 }: A• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.% Q7 J' r/ |& ^6 G6 y0 K
• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
! l: a* |/ J+ z* y• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.+ T# }- F6 b3 I) i$ n8 x% @/ M
• Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.: c! O1 ^+ B- P+ W
• Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.

• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application. A# a) K/ O" K1 `, y' v

• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.

• Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.

• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.
7 X* V6 }3 U* _0 O$ w* ?• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.

• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
{! b# O2 D0 o- B3 V0 f2 B) z• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
# l7 N0 K3 z( ~2 v! c• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
* a. J! f- w$ v• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.# |* @6 h w" H* z2 L
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.5 i* C' q% }4 s/ D5 X% ~
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
