, w; ]; `: E1 ^, y3 PSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
4 |, k3 c8 r0 i% y& ^- d; ]Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
  h+ e# Y( E/ v" u5 e4 ?( X•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
" i; r( a# c: d6 y/ X" x•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
. L$ L% u$ I& k7 w% J: D, Y+ j•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
1 O7 t! Q( B8 L•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
6 H. J- [; \* q, U; l+ i•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
! ]  S* h' l8 ~•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
. Q- o3 T' M- |9 u•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
: }1 }( ?. }) F  A# i•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
; c  M1 Y, \5 Y0 X# @8 y) yRecreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
! ?$ l3 C$ L. S# y% S, p$ }; t•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
: C8 Q/ R1 a' c( M2 l% t- S# ~& L! X•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
+ I3 m6 `6 r' p  z) p; d•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
Functions of all positions:
' H" d- t. g& A* e•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
5 P0 z# _8 l: h" B2 _' M6 dJob Requirements:
" X; [  w0 u5 E$ O: Z0 r5 a7 \•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
( O0 z3 @' x$ Y3 |* o•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
+ d2 _' K: Y+ B# O- x! z•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
5 F" }3 d( U7 H: P. oSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
