Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
2 \+ C4 b1 _8 {2 {3 hDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
4 w1 a  ?7 H: P( u) m5 J& g•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
0 l/ o" a$ t: v. b8 ~* G•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

+ u! c0 @4 e: D- K7 \7 v% b6 Z8 K! o! O•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
0 Z: j2 k/ h% a! K! a) s•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
9 U( p  B/ E5 |•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
; V" W. L) H, V  I5 q; N•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
/ \% x0 j( m& _: o7 k: t+ o•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
) H3 V# |3 C6 E3 i, \5 Z•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
/ l" l5 L+ f3 U  m/ f$ p, m8 Y•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
3 D6 {5 A, E3 E# y$ Y1 |5 `•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
$ i# ]4 U0 G# M! p7 Y3 i•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
( Q) D  ^4 ?: J- O' }& f•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
Functions of all positions:
•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
) w1 G; ~! h! w" T•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
/ s( \3 G+ D: W( W  J" B•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
3 _- j: q" I+ J4 E9 b% @7 E4 T•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
5 L' o7 q0 U! ?% e& W0 F•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
/ q+ O/ {% H$ b5 p•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
) E7 _2 s: h+ s' m* j! ?2 T  }& y•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
- U. Q4 Y8 J9 b0 H8 |4 u( }& ^4 JHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
: n; G( }, q" q: ^" a+ FSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
