JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
* h! n! Z2 P2 P7 K: a  D! u$ g, ~" I1 jthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
7 g, Q0 o% p# X7 t1 DCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
. ?2 X7 \# }% f) x" v% WStanding Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
year following their appointment.

4 H, W# v" H& N! J- V, vDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

. g# y& Y( D7 @) ?  R& V1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000
6 q1 |8 X: o1 H1 _* i: R6 {
+ V- G& u# k' _; T" u( }2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

; S# j% H+ }) U$ _! c4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
+ o  w, V# Z# I9 _across campus, and advertising the poll locations.

5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
referenda.

2 B7 R7 d/ k! f0 f" m5 @% o6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
; u8 [/ G5 j- K" g7 a1 Eparties.

; l1 h: ^$ B9 L: q6 Y7 p7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
referendum.

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
) g3 _; @1 i1 b2 R' b! GBylaw 2000.

' O3 ?9 b) }# I  n4 Z10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
) w, Y" O3 M! N0 `+ c' g* u5 ?minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
4 ~4 {9 ]" }0 x' d$ C: |from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.
  [' V$ b: Q3 F; H- F% s; N
* v( N) \3 n% k$ x11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
& d% A/ ?+ U! J+ H" fthe course of an election/referendum.

( Z1 d* l# k7 O) t12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
process is in place.

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
) \' w: @0 M  H' ~of activities and recommendations.

# p$ v  }6 P1 l! a8 M14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
of campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council

& T8 I/ P( ?' e' VQUALIFICATIONS:

7 i' o# H) c, D5 H1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
& S# I$ r8 e/ V" V; L! cfor each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
Union member.

2) Must have some experience in student elections.
; `- W8 f: s9 w$ F1 K  s
3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
* m; b$ ^1 e( L4 Jwith the Students' Union.

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

5) Excellent project management skills are required.
( |' _2 g2 g! ~6 L4 m4 ]' |- Z
5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  
& n- z. Z$ z& l* B0 z2 Lstaff, students and the general public.
