JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  9 d7 u; J  a# N9 Q! m
the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  : o+ Q6 F7 {( B6 c( t1 {
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  9 j7 w9 T1 C0 R" _8 g+ S5 b3 g
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
. @  U( M7 f3 yStanding Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
5 T/ ~- A2 ]+ u) T5 p: Eyear following their appointment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

2 p6 O9 t3 Z) t' f4 A1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 20005 Z7 ]! ~/ X* ?5 ]# o3 F
0 t. n% v. v7 m7 ^8 D0 y9 j
2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.
% t! r( a" Y1 r3 D5 k- b- y$ L% O5 h4 G( C9 {, {/ x1 {
3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.
5 f, Y; s. [4 y) B* E/ W2 Q( H
+ H, E1 o* ?: `- K4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  ; @$ P4 p4 {( N
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  1 X6 z) p( k. \" F; o2 m5 q
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.

5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/ : Z2 r. M# }/ O- ?# C
referenda.

6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
  f: h; M0 w( t; h* @# ?" ^6 Breferendum.& R  ^& `+ w. u2 `2 ~2 f

- O$ Z: E& J" ^7 c. N To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  / w$ ^9 F5 a8 y: e& H# y. P/ z
Bylaw 2000.

10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
2 b% y* B. \* Q' ?$ \minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
8 l% }, p4 I5 r( M/ {" _3 z# T" l0 Bfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  % O$ m! f/ O+ W2 S1 Q0 a
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.4 `, A5 r4 t) P; R+ n

2 F& G6 `- g9 r" j; n11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
  s2 G( }2 h/ ?; E$ E( L. l; Vthe course of an election/referendum.& q5 T2 a2 p& h4 f* {) w1 W% i

! f. i7 f) J. y- R" ]" b) ]12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  - y6 M9 Z/ t# G
process is in place.% J" k+ c) C4 N" K0 e

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  7 n6 x' w, f6 w& u* Z; K$ O
of activities and recommendations.$ a* i* _: D; c9 k

Administration Committee.

QUALIFICATIONS:

: n1 C# d- a. T8 Y1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  ) ^4 W, K- k1 @5 e
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
; B" R: N) Z; Q0 ^- b. |$ EUnion member., x% {6 z% F6 {( ^) v
7 E; J' ?# l1 }* m- d7 {
2) Must have some experience in student elections.
' b2 j. m' \& ?; T' M7 [# X9 B) s
0 b7 a* P$ k% S5 y& B3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  ! m4 b: S! _9 r9 S
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  - E0 c; T, i! m9 J$ m1 H& g3 J% M
with the Students' Union.
