the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  ) @6 K) S1 }0 f( d
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
* I3 @& g2 t5 i- |* p. zCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
  b+ \0 ^' \. u8 w8 iStanding Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
$ ^: N8 N! @7 l2 y) ]8 Wyear following their appointment.

( B! ?+ I* {0 g0 H; \% |DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
% \& z, O8 G* \3 g& h- n7 G: Y# F5 `# w- ?5 Y  c* j5 l  X/ W) {
1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000
* a! N$ d2 s5 n0 v' ?9 N! ^& a5 \* J& I
2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.( j2 e9 M4 g0 V4 x+ R) v
7 b- k/ T* `4 _+ w
3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.- I' M/ z/ P- L5 s! e
/ d' z/ J8 k" T0 ^; f' T" [
4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  4 z& {* U$ F: [. W$ K
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  3 \2 m% H& d% Q* ]
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.0 z$ V3 O) I  [+ {% ]( E

) ?2 H  V. g9 b! P' O- a5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/ 7 R* n6 h- Z- w) m& h. ]' ^
referenda.6 k" E9 `% m. b+ V1 w
' W" k" ~' j: a! g( u
6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
7 i7 Y; K" S  R2 Y0 M8 h+ Q( Rparties.. f! ^' x) Y" U3 P, U& R

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
- T! E! ^3 _2 i3 R! s' kreferendum.

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  . s6 S2 {, r9 F0 X9 [8 q9 a
Bylaw 2000.. M) S* R5 P$ W

5 H% Q0 I+ R* p9 [5 M9 g# h; |10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  ' T% n, [3 y1 h0 N: b2 p
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
% m3 r- s7 P# F  h, Zfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
+ t8 i. t& U3 C0 @2 \of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.. y: N8 {0 l  k" H

' u' y3 }8 Q1 ]1 w# t, x11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  3 X& C/ g  ]5 j
the course of an election/referendum.

6 e" V: g/ B  ?/ W) @5 S12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
" ^  Q$ Y4 ^, N0 W0 \process is in place.4 J2 Q/ f5 l& z9 a, }$ w

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
/ }3 n+ q) @* [of activities and recommendations.- V: i4 X2 e, `' r

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  ) A& G/ H6 X& ^+ }
of campaigning.

4 O2 @! J  U  \8 O) E; ^15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  ! l1 J- }& H% r9 z  X2 l

QUALIFICATIONS:, C0 p/ `  X4 z! J7 U$ e

  G& O0 a1 @5 [0 _9 C$ z4 Z; c1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  0 c* t- S7 {. K1 j
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  # f/ G5 s4 A$ K! [
Union member.5 q" S! a$ |# N

& q: R& Y, r/ G" a: e" O2) Must have some experience in student elections.
' B$ H2 Z9 a" u* u
2 d" P; \$ ~  n5 ~9 `3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  ( b* P$ L6 q" l. o
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
1 z% r2 D3 H$ |' v5 H) ~4 w3 K/ G  swith the Students' Union.
+ @, {) W% Q! U# L0 R; w! `# o0 [. }: l0 c: M2 e; \" w: B& Z# l
4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours., W6 h" e4 M, f( ?' e

( k. Q/ N! w! h% |1 [0 T5) Excellent project management skills are required.

" x  I+ w+ Q1 U, o8 D; A7 K8 n5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  
8 n+ `# J$ s  O4 N/ B$ a' a4 r6 nstaff, students and the general public.
