Remuneration: $6,032.00 contract

  g0 _4 P4 y; ^! cJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  + B6 Y$ f+ p7 Q9 t7 n
the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
6 j8 E8 r1 m* U, q7 @4 M2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  6 F8 C3 @( Q7 ^2 i# |
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
$ S( `  H, k! G2 p% N& IStanding Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  # V( s& n3 l( H  R5 \
year following their appointment.

5 V8 H* P3 ?2 L& y3 [$ s/ d1 D5 jDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

$ z- V2 t; f% b* ^( @# B. P2 T1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000

! q: y' H# n1 Q$ }2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.! [$ }4 o$ Q# x) O4 ?# O& b

1 |2 F. o6 |$ [+ Q: L8 s/ L6 [" U4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
  ?* W7 e- E) o+ Q! iadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
8 g3 N  o! R+ d9 ?' Eacross campus, and advertising the poll locations.
3 {0 Y$ S1 ^& d, Y( F) X3 U3 P) A$ @& }/ `
5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/ 0 k5 H0 ~! M/ e7 L
referenda.

6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
% ]6 o0 h5 |' O% Z3 V) qparties.

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
" M. o5 O/ k/ oBylaw 2000.1 Z" U6 J: a4 o' g

10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
5 Z% H$ a- Y% x8 j4 a0 {4 t/ H. Kminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  ) O0 n4 Z- A: r+ j9 ~5 N
from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  % ?& h0 [' x. V( Z4 L
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.8 n9 Q0 c* I$ f0 a) \; F

) W3 @$ j# [' x* F5 v% |) j& s11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
  r, R0 Z' g# i) f" c; a8 Q" Fthe course of an election/referendum., z( l$ |! t" B

0 ~0 {2 |; B3 ?: A12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  ! j$ v6 n- G* J
process is in place.

! `1 R, Y- z! q# }8 |13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  / T. b  _4 P/ \/ f6 a
of activities and recommendations.

0 D# y3 b* E8 l+ x14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
3 W: ^% ?2 k9 m; E2 `of campaigning.9 j' a% j. g8 s2 S/ R

8 ^; @2 R+ @/ Y" h" n0 z15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  
; t3 ?4 Q8 z! jAdministration Committee.# u4 \% N0 m$ F5 o9 N* J8 y6 O

QUALIFICATIONS:
( L" p7 ]- u. [) c; ^- D/ u4 o7 X, l, z+ Q& \
1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  * S- g. c! ?- ~9 K
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  : _3 D: r- P! X6 E* }. ^
Union member.
; W6 d* P" c4 T, W& g9 Q: x2 h& _' k; N5 _  @8 w( n% i
2) Must have some experience in student elections.
  l" ^- [0 F% L; ?' W
5 m4 s& E! ?% K" }/ m- n3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
! D# J9 g3 M) ^4 p' J/ E5 Uany of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
! e0 s8 p) j2 `: x1 [8 Bwith the Students' Union./ |+ h  ~8 P; j, d7 Z" q) [$ i3 j- g* b6 m

/ e/ J1 U) B1 |0 u( F7 B9 u- L4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

5) Excellent project management skills are required.; O$ R) z3 j% _+ ?+ p* E

) E  R9 d5 Q% {9 B( s5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  : ]8 E% N( |+ e6 E/ X
staff, students and the general public.
