Do you have a strong customer service background with well developed people-skills?  Do you enjoy driving and the challenges of dealing with the public in a diverse work environment?  If you answer yes, and you can meet the requirements below, we’re interested in you.
6 t. Y! p% q: g/ w9 t7 HEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:4 D  ^2 j$ Z, v; Y' g7 t
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
8 J8 D7 B! w+ Y; @•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
, z  [) C) r# l& ]•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
/ O6 F7 E) t. B3 b" y3 ]•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather % [. f* D- `, B# e9 Q) r! A6 P

•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. # k5 v$ y3 G) [

•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
; R: \7 |& l) ~( g  x•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability 5 q6 ~1 e8 s) q( r0 j, Y6 N
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
& m: q- Y+ E% ?1 c& g* `of the day.
' {. H8 _) K$ d  F7 X$ F/ ]" |•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
8 g2 r0 B5 ~( `2 \( ]' R  s* m1 c: x•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
) z1 N4 Y& e7 Q2 @  ~0 K2 ]& u& P•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
1 J; b9 H/ h" _# w/ r% r" O! m6 w" n•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
6 j! D+ h  K' Dshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 9 \: h9 _3 Z2 t. ^# l; i/ l" F
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
" b# g+ C7 c4 f" N+ rvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).$ p& a6 B; g0 @1 ~# ~* m
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.$ t' N$ {: b" q* h
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.1 W) `+ V# u; ^5 P- Y) i- C+ P

2 O9 E. L' Q8 o1 dHOURS OF WORK:
$ e5 A+ O6 Q& B. _1 HVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week 8 L$ w9 s& A) a: i, i
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
9 P9 y/ V4 ~; m' j) ~( WThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

: Q* v7 f" e. g8 L. m+ ASALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004

Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly/ W) a$ O& f7 M- ?* [6 e8 u: H
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
