Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

# ?! Q1 W% }5 p1 V* c2 Q•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
" ~1 ?; u" a' B$ ]& \, g•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
$ C0 M3 O+ e! d& q6 S# u•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
, X/ U# y" v. w" Pand traffic conditions.
•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
) F/ Q) O# V# N& p8 @* L•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
•        Provide excellent customer service.

1 o- i- |/ }- |  PJOB REQUIREMENTS:
* f0 [4 ^6 f2 A, L# S& P5 g, O•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
# R# `, t2 r% X+ Y* D3 x•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
. h+ B7 N' J2 j7 {2 q' `  s•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
; a5 ~( J' E3 A/ z  @/ ]•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
4 |+ n) X" h6 _& {3 f0 gshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
# A2 Q: p: ^* G* L; f+ x5 a•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
! `1 i& O8 t1 t4 B8 S3 i( q/ @( qvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
  [* z% Z. I. @" |•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
% d$ J8 t' o6 [1 b, BThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
! @6 I- `/ ^# z2 S8 l! f  G, iPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
& S" r- E$ u" E( D* Z' b. K) PThe rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
