- q# {6 h! {$ nEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

2 S- D. s1 R3 V( [8 ?• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.6 h# I, Y+ Y% z$ k+ j* d p
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.9 R6 f7 t6 V- i* \
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.% q; Y7 {! z# Z! W( H+ T, M( v4 b& P
• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
! k# w8 C, D: Rand traffic conditions.

• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. 2 F$ P2 F4 \- x. v: s9 L

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
" m' \3 C: w5 E$ z4 M" W• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset." M7 ~) @ l1 l
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
& W/ e' p0 J' Y2 uto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

4 z# `1 N$ a H- c/ F1 c• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).: @ @0 G; h% v: @* p
• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.3 A& d: M8 D7 K2 g
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.$ g8 Y8 e" k2 b3 v: q
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) $ m5 h7 p$ {3 G$ I& l6 F! Y
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 9 ~+ w# S6 `/ c3 | I0 S
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
) u7 u) F) B+ L% q6 A, ]video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).$ m4 X4 t4 T! O* O$ w2 u
• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week 3 V2 L' V+ O- L# B# I
1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly

Training Rate: $16.56 Hourly
