- t( E  v! N9 y' e! k8 pEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

2 n0 {! S. g6 IFUNCTIONS:
0 h# m5 a% ~# Q5 _( T/ N% c•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.

•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.

$ A# N# r% Y0 ?) }4 D9 m" F# `) r•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
•        Provide excellent customer service.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
* C/ D3 ]5 I4 y; g- K# t5 S! f. g+ Wto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
, D; l; b( X8 N0 K, ^# b, o0 b, ^of the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
! B# R% I7 G& ?6 e•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

+ f3 l- s$ a+ E' {: y: O•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

5 X7 m9 B( M  R. \HOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
/ w/ Y- I0 [! m1 u1 I% J1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
( h7 y( N. H- x, iThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
