bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based* s- E0 L+ f& G# }$ g
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
# }" l0 M1 h$ Sprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that4 I( y8 e; ]1 O4 h
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.2 V! t9 e/ f* \1 j5 N5 G3 J3 j
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
P$ V8 o6 c$ I" K- Vmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve( B7 T' ]8 P4 r9 U3 P) t/ E7 e
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the9 S4 ^0 [$ g. [* I2 ^* I
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills6 L# l! Z& [$ }& Q3 e. D0 _1 P4 B
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
$ O ^* |0 c0 e. i# c2 n$ x; ~youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
6 a7 E: {4 ^& N7 `participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
: I& e" f( |. O" s4 }development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
q- I) c2 Y7 n+ U( x! Pexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
9 O' _$ X3 t$ A7 v3 }' A( @wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a- s9 y1 d# C) t) q) a. y
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.+ o: M+ j* q' c7 }2 F2 f1 j
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
% s3 S! [: o! |. z9 D9 ~YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta. ^! k9 q4 @, e/ ^' n% _
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

) p1 a8 a1 d9 s! @5 VEmployment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
n3 \! |0 J6 p$ z• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
2 z* V3 v ^- [+ S! L/ Ncommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are5 ^! ]8 m4 O9 H
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities& t/ H3 v* _8 I& ]
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
) l. K7 W( J- @1 k; X* e) v8 @8 Ybeing realistic to each youth participant/ `+ ^7 T& N$ B% M7 l
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the* z( o% v8 O A$ u/ ]
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to8 T) ~/ i D- `
each participant/ K; u: g8 w* @1 w& z. t9 w8 p
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of; S5 o; G% E7 r" W+ D% Q
cover letters and resumes etc.! E& Z9 h1 [" w4 X* u6 G
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
4 ]& K5 j+ N2 f _! zexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the% _! o; \0 e2 f9 j7 c9 E
placements
% v- _: W4 O/ S• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating* {2 j8 s( Z' {2 ^2 y& T) J7 t
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
1 [) K' z" M$ f" f7 o3 a• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach1 f$ m5 \8 _6 ?' K, {/ U- b% x
is being fulfilled for each youth8 X; q7 P& v9 E6 [' A
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are% u/ {5 _8 t5 t( q
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project8 ]5 E0 D/ d) |7 v0 N$ D# Q
• Other tasks as they arise within the position

 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted9 q- h5 l9 \+ ]" b
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
