$ `* e! W2 X8 {9 `% |The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
. F: Y* j3 ^$ O1 Zbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
4 c) q5 f# v: p" ?6 U) E# lemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day% D' J. C1 p1 X& u
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that$ k/ c' l* S% T& [$ V
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
7 N. j$ p' \4 w/ x5 r \YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
5 U0 W1 Z, [1 v, J U: N, O7 A4 }5 Emission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
" n& {3 U2 P8 b) J; w0 B* d3 Y8 Uconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
3 m' l" J: V1 a9 P0 I: i2 _/ G* K8 U xVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills# V9 ?) w$ S! N5 b" t& a
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve+ Q% [ ~6 A' Q, I/ k. m' @
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose0 g2 h0 h( P8 _8 W
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment7 _" ]# X+ G q! m$ z" |* y3 I6 H8 x
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and" I# N% {) ?* j! C8 V& k
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
/ S0 d; d1 \# _9 K( u! i' `5 zwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a! D) A! I" R% A1 e2 q
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.* |6 E& [0 Q3 V+ [* w# {
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
. @) }# T: K7 X* `, z O% xYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
0 H% y4 u0 L" k3 g7 i0 SThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of+ O S6 M! M+ O4 t7 B `
extension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)/ d7 w$ l% ]; a3 R( h2 j5 Y9 C
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
* F4 ^) A, H# |( \- Ucommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
5 r" s1 G; k# w4 X% t0 z: S- _3 p$ iwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities+ j5 F- U5 l. h7 q
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
4 |5 U" x5 `, |+ e4 K$ Pbeing realistic to each youth participant
/ U- D3 ~: e- j• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the4 T% l; a- [$ v' \5 A {2 z" G
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to+ K( [/ d5 K- R# N" Z1 m
each participant
) \( t* h3 D' T! P• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
& t; U" p3 ^8 C, T; c7 Tcover letters and resumes etc.
7 j# O2 ^! X6 ]* }' _8 t) ?8 Z7 h• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
5 \8 l' ~7 ~) x, T: a/ L9 }experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
+ ?4 e! `5 e/ D' I! {placements
5 @$ r) C+ p @6 B• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
4 X/ I/ J7 G' Z+ zthe process, and supporting the youth where needed
! U( z# P0 A( r& O0 F# t7 s• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach5 K! @- @9 a/ }$ A' g8 g
is being fulfilled for each youth
. j1 u$ V6 c Y+ `$ x. h• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are' ?( F& `4 r* T. o- Y
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

Experience Required: Employment Developer
4 c. |1 O3 ?2 L Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted0 |+ }1 v+ B1 S3 k4 p
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.2 T# I7 e9 `8 C4 `5 B; R

 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
