bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based+ i o x; J& n# K+ G- N; n( x
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
W/ p: a9 y; z6 e8 N6 \4 |8 sprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
" v0 `2 L0 C {3 V# \* Qstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.& x/ S" t* L+ c, l
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
' Z, j z O* M9 {, i+ nmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve9 P* O8 b& j& b2 J, C
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the2 E3 W7 g; U. G3 q) e' ~
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
) T( X& S$ n p7 K V1 Tnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
( t1 g8 U0 z8 Eyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose! ~3 Y" L' J9 \0 j& o: K
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
6 z# o8 j) a# i2 ^$ G. u* Q" S# Qdevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and# }' U x. j( ]- R
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and5 I% @; C! X3 Z" T! i
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
0 U7 G8 |% ]+ @: y4 _: ?6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
9 }8 C* c5 @% p. _7 CThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central! l8 c' H6 C+ t) `
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.: _7 B T& k$ N5 W0 H
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of9 I# u& A5 a- D5 j! k$ Q. C0 ~

" s1 r, B: r; |8 {5 y; oEmployment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)# m" Y: n+ }& @& h4 q
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the7 X. N D0 Q2 k4 R; I2 a A. m9 n
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
/ p' X7 g$ f7 q- N$ `/ `willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
3 x2 W% @* e7 W k, s: k• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as( Q; s/ g8 a+ M6 t3 @. f3 p
being realistic to each youth participant
8 |8 V1 b; y* T) c& Y• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the' k) F0 B3 ^2 w# @2 E, m9 M: u
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to: R2 N) C; m3 E) e; S9 s
each participant4 G4 W& Y' E& j$ }5 f% p0 p
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
- |0 @6 R: `% ycover letters and resumes etc.4 u5 y, {5 x9 W! H0 A3 O9 L
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
4 W- J6 j% F0 c [* O1 E% o* }) Mexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the+ }6 O5 P/ q( F* M- _4 R
placements
6 R% R3 X+ h. G' R- J5 F5 ~• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
; `- Q) ^; o! N# k/ U% I# hthe process, and supporting the youth where needed
5 I8 h; g0 H/ q6 l/ g• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
' K, G3 s& v1 c& w! Q7 g7 ois being fulfilled for each youth
+ T; H# k& D. L: J• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
; j- C4 R) s2 P+ G- C2 b; lrelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

Experience Required: Employment Developer
% q4 E8 h! Z" a$ M+ O+ @ Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted, O" K' \& T/ t+ h* D' \8 Y
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
