The VERTO Project
& z& d( H4 |+ eThe YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
: R3 S! g* F2 f0 u; M8 T% W5 Tbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
6 m2 D; x, e1 b8 h. Xemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
8 D E% `- H- {5 r( [6 qprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
* ]$ R" e/ o/ |stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence./ H* G& O8 O8 i3 e
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
# ]* }% V3 W$ {6 a. m+ wmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve+ `' J3 O1 l, t% ?( v
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
; \: A/ w3 p7 Z9 gVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills& V7 J) J H% q. T" J& d( f& B
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve0 P* t/ w! e0 V3 f
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose! Q8 A7 z; l" `$ ~! g- O8 e, @$ Q
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment: r4 y8 U- \: K' ]0 {% Q
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and: a' D9 I1 I: j! N
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and9 z7 m! d- T( v3 e; q$ Y2 D
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
+ L- d( G2 N7 M& Z& w7 Y) T6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
2 U( n5 m' S( \, tThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
]2 x0 u$ S: QYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
; a4 A( a# D. m" ~• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the5 \) q9 I5 }" i9 ~* G! N+ |
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are; I$ i2 ? {( s. k0 C
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities2 p: e2 t2 r. G$ d* ?- \, r* d
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as2 E7 y: G5 t! v8 N. U: r
being realistic to each youth participant
, K) e" p b% P' R) A1 E1 E8 A• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the8 c0 X0 U9 P' l
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to Q9 _9 F; [. w5 h7 S# e1 S7 ^
each participant5 S" ~' l G$ Q2 w- O3 t
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
. u: I% e4 x% k; A0 Ecover letters and resumes etc.
6 f" E) T- D7 S' i t2 O• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
, ~6 e# r G+ C( Qexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the6 l, L- o q6 o% r# P! o
placements. @# D1 w% n# w3 L4 N( I
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
( h& x n, V a m& e- othe process, and supporting the youth where needed
. V" A, D0 @+ e0 U' d* x• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach% e1 {& D$ f; @0 T! C
is being fulfilled for each youth
8 I" C+ v, o) |3 d) t• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are8 W ~. a7 R: [; {( j, o
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

Experience Required: Employment Developer
- x1 }2 `$ c$ s5 s0 f, y6 m& A$ s Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted! e+ [9 q) J- ?* b9 i2 a P
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
