As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. 7 Q. K$ y5 S+ W

* {, d) K% @1 f; m1 O- K, `9 [Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:& y1 S; v0 l; }" S2 b
•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
/ D+ s& r2 @$ I6 H2 R•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
6 R0 r6 ^  H9 C1 ?5 G' }•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module4 C9 x4 F" F) n' n' f+ p
•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's0 w0 E+ u: k2 Q
•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers ' i6 f3 n# n1 S. W) x5 f2 e: z0 u
Job Requirements:  
# C7 \1 r5 e% j, Z5 V+ F% \  |1 K•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline$ p) W* @) S1 |! r' B% H, h5 a$ j
•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset% o$ Z- q9 u' ^2 P
•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
/ N- c4 F: J+ n) B( J) W+ h- q2 U/ a•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems- s* }5 z8 R9 W9 f) T
•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
# t1 d4 M) g' Y- D) W•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies+ N# x5 ?/ \# o# b; w; Q/ ~) `/ @
•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST
# X; a8 n3 p1 V+ G•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills
' G9 U( |; D2 _) c& G5 H) PHours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.   O3 M2 g* b. o5 F4 N
Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.
