Duties

* Provides routine technical and administrative support for sample preparations and mineral separation for isotopic analysis1 l: r/ @7 ~0 P
* Conducts mineral separation, sample imaging, grant mount preparation, sample weighing and iron exchange chromatography1 d2 O. L' \* z& o7 m4 c* y" v+ U
* Provides training to graduate students, visiting scientists on preparation techniques; e# q. ?7 a# }; Y5 ` S: y8 F { h
* Compiles analytical data using standard office software such as Excel, Word and Corel for use by the PI or client
7 U+ C$ ?+ T7 ^6 u4 d% f k ^ * Performs routine maintenance on equipment and lab husbandry
9 W# V! Y8 u; e3 \1 A * Orders supplies, maintains lab records, maintain WHMIS records and compliance labeling, maintains lab inventory and safe disposal of chemicals
3 g/ [# }( g- H+ {0 K" o * Provides safety training to students, staff and visitors using the lab; z4 a) s2 d' M g/ k8 B- O
* Provides administrative support by maintaining records, (usage and expenses) and prepares invoices
* }5 O8 s' J0 O * Assists with laser ablation analyses on the multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICPMS). E9 O1 S" \1 d2 \. ]& V" ^' H
2 [* G$ {* D4 | `$ D2 L( O2 `2 ]Qualifications
& s2 d3 q f1 ?+ i4 E! ~) B- d* I+ Z1 q8 h( A& D7 C
* Post Secondary diploma in laboratory technology, Chemistry or Earth Sciences; BSc in Geology or Chemistry preferred
6 Z: q( B' \$ j. S3 U- T * 1-2 years experience working in a research environment (analytical chemistry lab or geochemical lab)
5 ^9 [9 q" ]" l2 }0 ~+ W * Computer proficiency using MS Office applications and Corel
9 H( c7 K4 I9 h2 `! k8 y* y * A thorough knowledge of lab safety protocols and WHMIS procedures
