Duties

    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
" f' m$ c2 V4 U1 _) |1 w    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
* o/ e5 m' e3 |    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators
: E) r+ s/ y: n5 [+ L    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses
1 U% Y1 ?, t9 O  X    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth
    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program

4 ]: k' `2 z: N- r, u0 p# Q    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports
    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs
4 h9 ?2 G" M- f7 M0 R    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly
    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities
3 I1 J* z( r0 ?% K& R& u, ?    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

Qualifications

    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
% o, a3 c3 |. X$ I    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth
0 A0 g! M. b& p    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
1 n3 l$ T' H% H, i& {7 g& X, z- V    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs
    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community
8 n. v( F& j8 {    * Fundraising skills an asset
7 r( N5 y/ i! y# b9 \% i2 ~# O    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills
    * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills
    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills
    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills
    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset
