EDMONTON - Prices for new homes in Edmonton fell 5.3 per cent in July compared to the same month last year, marking the biggest year-over-year drop in 23 years, said Statistics Canada today.

"Markets in these cities continue to adjust after experiencing record price increases in the last two and a half years," the federal agency said.7 |7 h; m, r9 x4 a2 S5 H2 G
4 X4 e O4 y: j5 d' |Even heated Saskatoon posted a slower annual increase of 13.1 per cent, "further confirmation of a trend of deceleration in this city. Many builders reported increased prices as a result of higher material and labour costs," the agency said.+ l$ S# l0 O/ M9 G+ ]

The fastest pace was in Regina, which saw a year-over-year price increase of 29.6 per cent, down from its record rise of 34 per cent in April.

4 B* L" F* Y; E/ ?5 jPrices were up 2.7 per cent in July from a year earlier, down from June's annual pace of 3.5 per cent. On a monthly basis, prices edged up 0.1 per cent between June and July.
