In the first incident, a 30-year-old man is dead in what police are calling a "gang motivated" shooting near Whitemud Drive, the Edmonton Police Service said in a press release.

: k; E# e9 Z. W( U+ I0 A4 j2 j9 bAt approximately 2:20 a.m. MT, the EPS responded to a call of shots fired at a silver Infiniti near a Whitemud Drive overpass at 170th Street.

The driver of the car was found dead at the scene.

! s2 \. H6 F2 X. b; g" }) ]One male passenger fled from the vehicle before police arrived, and reports indicate a small white car was seen fleeing the scene after the shots were fired.

( }, y; R2 R; L2 fThe circumstances leading up to the shooting are still under investigation, but police believe the incident is not random and is likely gang-related.

9 l8 x- {- C9 O& F3 dMeanwhile, one male is dead and another is in police custody after an altercation between two groups in an alley early Sunday morning, according to an EPS press release.

At approximately 2:45 a.m. MT, officers spotted a vehicle being driven the wrong way on Gateway Boulevard near Whyte Avenue.

/ N  F- o: T& W5 y! z$ E5 @Upon stopping the car, the officers learned that one of the passengers, a 24-year-old male, was seriously injured.

- g" s: H1 [* z$ q5 p$ ~A police investigation revealed that the three male occupants of the vehicle had been involved in a physical altercation with two other males and a female near an alley south of Whyte Avenue, between Gateway Boulevard and Calgary Trail, which resulted in one male being stabbed.

" ^+ D( W0 ~- k8 E) `The three suspects were located by police immediately following the vehicle stop. A 32-year-old male is in custody and charges are pending.

Officers are investigating the circumstances that led to the altercation.
