There are no changes in the way Albertans register for publicly-funded health care. However, as announced in the 2008 budget, health premiums have been eliminated as of January 1, 2009. ' q* |! T1 B& c+ U5 V) `

Payment and collection of health care premiums owed prior to January 1, 2009 will continue under these guidelines:- Y! J2 W6 F- d# H. R' }6 y

1. All Albertans are responsible to pay premiums unless they qualify for premium assistance, government-sponsored income support programs, or are senior citizens.
# D' h, T* U) z 2. Employers and benefit administrators who register and pay premiums on behalf of their employees will continue to do so.0 Y; V) n5 q7 T
3. Alberta Health and Wellness will continue to pursue collections from those who fail to pay premiums.
2 Q ]( i4 R0 [5 ]1 S: M) ` 4. Contributors to Alberta Blue Cross or other supplementary insurance plans that provide prescription drug, dental, and other extended coverage, will still pay those premiums, as they have not been eliminated.
