Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
% b, ^- \! A) ^' h2 B2 O8 QMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
* G' n0 M9 ?0 f+ z: h9 T% E3 t(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about5 i' \6 N m3 r u j @
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste3 A% [- I! M6 i7 o* d% C5 h
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
1 C5 O; T1 X& u0 l6 xvermin-composting and residential recycling.8 ] m; O, Q" ~2 T
& K% q3 K U& h$ W5 l
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips3 ]( ?1 u% ~7 l, A
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates+ ~4 T0 k8 h) n0 y8 c5 x4 z: z
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:: I3 l& k f' b: a* `& R) d/ E, s
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important8 R" b% ~# A% \: _! L* D
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
4 b/ G' I1 O4 X1 [8 s) [! a& M" U8 Gimportance of composting and recycling.& M6 Y% t; J5 I, X3 A, F
X" I+ P$ b' V5 G |; IExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
+ C7 `" y! n+ d! i; Q% y% PReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;' V6 D b0 S3 V$ E/ u, N- v6 y/ P4 j
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
6 M0 o d8 t+ p, dmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
) k C7 ~6 b/ ~5 M" Qvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school3 o1 L7 w) v8 y8 j; B
presentations.& z) K m% k: M* `) \) o4 r

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and( L$ R0 z& u2 i x' O4 B7 q
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the$ x! i7 h0 a3 E) `) |6 ^
