Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

; |# I* P% L: O# |, L0 Q6 GDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
% h% B3 a- x3 x# ZMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule; \! J4 O2 h& Z: T
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about2 u2 q% Y0 G, c7 ~) c5 I& S% h5 W
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste3 q2 z8 }# e7 N" b! y% |* j
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
1 v3 M [8 R$ p% Jvermin-composting and residential recycling.
+ U; o/ H) Q0 s0 B8 u9 h( b
4 }) P: \2 H! j) x' w1 vThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
! Y; S4 Q, y. L1 u r" Nto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates0 Z- e3 U, U ~2 L# ?5 L
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:* w. N; ^$ T& U3 w" X/ z0 |
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important! W2 v, l+ B, e& h/ g/ J
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
1 _% A0 R4 J% a# v& k, c. G A- Kimportance of composting and recycling.

Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
; ]- ?% q6 R. J6 v0 N$ W$ b1 rReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;3 M- l' j% k A% R
public education display booths; assisting with programs and5 r% m& u* p- c( K! y* J5 O# y0 o
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
# U' s. O" r" K1 b, S: ` k' ovarious demonstration gardens and general public and school6 i2 n* u, ~( s. C; S% z
presentations.2 i" H, s3 I" U; Z) G
0 P8 A% N, P% Z4 ^) n4 ZThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
5 f* ~4 v+ H0 D9 r; Y; g2 Q7 zvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
+ w' L* v" z; l& _* Tmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
( m0 _- B0 H l/ S' a2 h8 Z/ yknowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
