Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!/ R7 Q( p) ?+ G1 a
City of Edmonton, Waste Management Branch4 H' s8 y7 s' A* K* r

3 N! f( I* `3 d r2 ]. J7 CDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
+ n5 N3 H* E4 w5 Q" uMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule% N3 n: e7 ^- l$ ]" e
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
9 L' }% [2 D6 J: D f8 i9 fenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste$ ^. p" c' O T. n7 V
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
- @' Q9 A8 v% [4 ?vermin-composting and residential recycling./ L: Z3 P) a. t/ S9 X
+ i& P$ p% \. l3 V* }$ GThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
5 F$ E2 C+ W; T* y- } Tto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates: t$ ~2 L p( F+ y* K
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:# [) T9 a0 k! ~$ K5 E9 \! U
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important. n7 X1 U- t" X) N6 [9 S
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the- q4 R, P; ` V' H0 [
importance of composting and recycling.6 H& J: e9 u4 y. V K
/ D' |+ m( [4 r; t' F5 W9 J6 A: T
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
( s) ?* z0 L) U3 ^% l% \Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
( m* J! m% }$ [public education display booths; assisting with programs and
, ^7 `7 h2 P% ~ J; imaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at) n7 t( C" o# p J
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
' u+ J; t% ?" g0 n- M5 P. T' O4 ~4 z# bpresentations. \* k5 l0 T; X& |8 O0 L: A
$ z# L/ L3 m8 Q- u& [) {) h
There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
$ s- |" z/ u5 n- N# K; qvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the7 J; ?. d7 Y- g T0 @5 a$ V! ^
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your& G1 s+ X) _7 v+ Z! x
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master4 u2 H8 E" `+ {# m" Z+ C
