Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the6 N& |# h$ s# I3 A6 g' r
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule3 u' i, _2 k a
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
`* }0 @ ^+ _! M+ xenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
$ U% f) r+ e0 \# Xmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;
$ `- J; r- V7 P% Yvermin-composting and residential recycling.
0 w% U! O/ G, o9 A& {( n* { I
- K. f7 _6 | T. Z: B) hThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
0 e$ S t& i. I. R% Q( J) R. ?4 v1 Sto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
1 b5 |$ H0 J# [! Hcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's: j9 L$ m5 U8 ^$ m$ H) z
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
8 {8 y; W \& F v' s, m: cresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
; y( B) `0 @" m6 R/ |importance of composting and recycling.1 H* u( |. E. h

Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the1 F2 ]6 j0 T9 v% v d! ]
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
V# @' R" A% X" t. ipublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
# N& y1 L% v& y- V; x O; |maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
2 l, r3 X- e7 Lvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
. h% m K. }3 q/ X+ ~presentations.3 p/ d; N7 ?6 f
1 H# i8 A7 A9 s( X0 a0 gThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and$ M- \$ k7 ~! m$ Q7 K3 w2 V- m
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
( X8 R) ^! M5 W8 H; jmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your, W3 k% l C2 Z1 [8 U$ q4 B" k; H
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
