Swine flu: fifth US victim dies

The man from Corpus Christi, who has not been named by the authorities, died earlier this month, health officials in Texas said.

1 A4 I+ E8 d! e0 h8 P9 UDr William Burgin Jr, of the Corpus Christi-Nueces county health district, said that the man died on May 5 or May 6 after becoming ill a few days earlier. - D$ k: D- y5 O4 ?0 H) T5 N
& s# l* I; Z5 c1 B8 GHe said that the man had pre-existing medical conditions, including heart problems, that made it more difficult for him to survive any viral illness.

Dr Burgin did not identify the man but said he was a single parent with three children. One of the children had also contracted swine flu but was treated successfully and is making a recovery. 9 ^- n- y) `7 ?; M. |9 S# c

Dr Burgin said that county health officials had received confirmation on Friday morning that the man had died of swine flu. - o' u" ]$ |! R" x) p
