Presently 327 students attend the Center School. There are six sections of Kindergarten, five first grades one multi-age grade one/two, five second grades, a K-2 Partial Inclusion program, and an Extended Day Kindergarten Program.

' B1 J* A( T  f- n* b. gOur staff consists of a principal, fourteen K-2 classroom teachers, eight paraprofessionals, one extended day teacher, and four teachers for children with special needs.  In addition, Center School has a speech and language specialist, a reading specialist, a part time art teacher, a school nurse, a library media resource aide, a clerical aide, a secretary, two custodians, nine lunch /playground aides, a lunchroom manager, and two cafeteria workers. Center School shares a physical education teacher, a music teacher, an occupational therapist, a physical therapist, an elementary adjustment counselor, a math specialist, a gifted and talented specialist, and a school psychologist with other schools.

I! ^8 {8 aInstructional methodologies include, but are not limited to: team teaching, differentiated instruction, cooperative learning groups, flexible grouping models, shared/paired reading, thematic based lessons, standards based math instruction, process writing, and a literature based approach to reading.

) T8 U3 Y4 w- q4 Z% ZThe use of of the Everyday Math Program supports NCTM standards and has been providing instruction in all K-2 classrooms. The recently updated EPS Science/Health curriculum has been in full implementation in our K-2 classrooms as of September 2007 and the recently approved EPS English Language Arts curriculum was implemented in our K-2 classrooms as of September 2008. Currently all teachers at Center School are aware of the six research based comprehension strategies outlined by Stephanie Harvey during her presentation to EPS on the October 16, 2007 and March 3, 2009 early release days and are moving toward a deeper understanding of, and the sustainability of, the teaching of the strategies.  The Open Circle curriculum is used in all settings throughout the school day to foster social competence.

: \( ~  I( z  H' P9 fThe Center School is committed to establishing an atmosphere that allows students to achieve at their maximum potential. Thus, Center School is a child-centered elementary school, which strives to meet the needs of all children through a partnership of children, teachers, and parents. To this end, the staff uses the Instructional Support Team process to identify academic, social, and behavioral needs, to assess student progress, and to provide accommodations that will aide in the attainment of established standards. Other practices include monthly staff meetings, grade level meetings, mentor planning time, and inclusion planning time.

( w; k2 c0 D7 E, W4 TCenter School has an active PAC committed to supporting enrichment activities for the students in the areas of math, reading, science, health and wellness, the arts, and anti-bullying measures. An increased awareness of the broader community is encouraged through various Helping Hands initiatives.

The School Council, consisting of parents, teachers, a community member, and the principal, sets yearly goals for the school. Working with the principal, members of the council ensure that the focus of the annual school improvement plan remains focused on the vision of the Center School and aligns with the Easton Public School System goals.
